"Really great supernatural romance"
In Chicago, research chemist Sophie Alexander desperately
seeks to find the cure for the cancer that is killing her
beloved ward, Kara. Sophie, who works for a cosmetics
firm, knows she is one ingredient away from a youth elixir
that will work wonders for her cherished Kara and make
people younger. However, the clock ticks, as Kara does not
have much longer to live so a few drinks later a desperate
Sophie conjures up the Devil. The deal they make is her
soul for the ingredient. The Devil returns to his abode
and assigns incubus Cain the Slayer to the case. Cain comes to Sophie in her dreams, but is under strict
orders not to touch her. He soon knows what love is all
about after over a millennium of not caring when he
realizes that his victim willingly sacrificed everything
for a child not even of her womb. Cain falls in love with
Sophie and wants to help her fully knowing the cost of
betraying his employer is eternal loneliness in the deepest
pits of Hell. Fans of paranormal romances filled with angels, incubi, and
devils will relish A STRANGER'S DESIRE. The story line is
fast-paced and at a superior level when it concentrates on
either Kara's health or the weird lead couple
relationship. Acceptance of a scientist doing an
incantation seems a stretch, even as desperate as Sophie
was while a taut subplot focused on industrial espionage
but feels mundane when compared with the wild paranormal
elements that make Kimberly Raye's novel into a unique
engaging read. Harriet Klausner
