"Past and Future Merge in this Suspenseful Time Travel tale"
"You must save them" were the cryptic words of Master
Odairus. Remala Picard-Moreau had a new assignment. She
couldn't quite put her finger on what troubled her about
it. Little did she know the Master had devised this one
specially for his beloved apprentice. A Shaynvar Knight of eighteen years standing, Remala was a
guardian of time travel in the twenty second century, in
addition to her responsibility for keeping peace and order
in her section of the galaxy. She was also subject to the
bidding of the Shaynvar elders. She had been the first
female to receive such an honor. Today, she was one of the
best. She had little time for personal affairs. This was to
be her reward. The mission video was tagged "July 14, 976 AD, Northern
European Continent, Norway, Earth". The downlink depicted a
massacre. Remala didn't understand. Why was SHE being sent
to save this tiny Viking village from the ravages of their
cannibalistic neighbors, in a time when men ruled and women
obeyed. Even more alarming was the unprecedented carte
blanche she'd received, to use whatever technology
necessary to ensure this mission's success. When she
requests that the task be assigned to another, Odairus
refuses. He tells her that the leader of these people is
wise and will accept her. Remala is mesmerized by their leader, Beravael, King of
Birasett. He and his men had been summoned to help defend a
small village from the Mordren. Beravael was larger than
life, a god, tall, strong and courageous, he had fought
them to the very death, a fate Remala was charged with
changing. She had her arrival timed to the second. The attacks had
already taken their toll. Few fighting men remained when
she'd made her appearance. Devastation was imminent.
Witnessing the effect of Remala's advanced technology,
Beravael cannot help
wondering if she'd been sent by the gods in answer to his
prayers. As predicted, he soon comes to appreciate Remala's
assistance, and accept her explanations. He also develops
strong feelings for her which create a conflicting need to
protect her, feelings that she definitely shares. Here was
the woman who was destined to be his queen. He would have
her at any cost, even if it meant betraying her trust. As one would expect, her technological wonders could not be
kept secret for long. Soon others would want to possess
this remarkable woman and her miracles. Had she saved these
people from the Mordren, only to bring a new danger into
their midst? Where in time and space could these two soul
mates spend the rest of their lives together in peace? SAVIOR IN SPACE was a wonderful blend of history and
fantasy, as Remala takes frequent trips back to the future
to regroup. It is important to note that Remala isn't
working in a vacuum. She has other demands on her time
which makes the story much more believable. Remala's
friends and peers, are a remarkable group of people. She
has moral support every step of the way. Especially
interesting the relationship she has with her two best
friends. Together they make a futuristic feminine version
of the Three Musketeers. Each woman has unique qualities
that make the relationship interesting. Beravael's cronies
are an interesting bunch as well, and it is fascinating to
observe their reactions to Remala and company. I think the
readers will really enjoy the resolution of this couple's
dilemma. For a very unique time travel romance, I recommend
you read this tale of suspense. Copyright © 2002
