"An emotional story in a facinating universe"
Negotiator Joanna Chase will be one of the founders of a
new colony, as soon as she and her diplomats can agree on a
workable code of law. Fleet Commander Alex Mariltar is one
of the Ambassadors who are working towards creating a
Coalition of diverse people from many planets, all working
toward a common, peaceful goal. The only missing ingredient is Alex's marriage. Ambassadors
must enter into marriage partnerships that will further
cement the Coalition together. He chooses Joanna, whom he
has met once and found unforgettable. Uninterested in
marriage, Joanna refuses the proposal offered by an
intermediary. She has a challenging career and no time or
desire for a husband, especially to a total stranger, no
matter how important he is. She doesn't know the request was a mere formality. Soon
Joanna finds herself prisoner on Alex's ship and forced
into a mating Ceremony with him. Now life as an
Ambassador's wife tests her in ways that diplomacy never
did. She and Alex must come to a workable arrangement or
face long lives of misery. At the same time, each must deal
with the challenges and dangers of life in a raw, new
colony. There are forces at work in their new world which will
require their strength and determination, understanding and
intelligence. Until they both can commit to a true
marriage, they will be handicapped as they struggle to
fulfill their mutual destiny. It's been a long time sine I read a futuristic romance with
so much pleasure. Clarke's deft touch with dialogue, her
colorful and smooth narrative, and an exciting, strongly
emotional story work beautifully together to draw a reader
into a believable, fascinating universe. MOONFIRE--I loved
