"Continuing adventures of Axis to fulfill The Prophesy of The Destroyer"
THE ENCHANTER is the continuing adventures of Axis to
fulfill The Prophesy of The Destroyer [Book 1: WAYFARER
REDEMPTION]. Axis must unite the three races of his world
and somehow defeat his half-brother, Gorgrael. The evil
Gorgrael has attacked and conquered several human
strongholds on his quest to conquer this world. Gorgrael
feeds on pain and if he succeeds a very dark time will
ensue on this world. THE ENCHANTER is the story of Axis's
continuing quest to fulfill his destiny. THE ENCHANTER started out rather slowly but picked up pace
fairly quickly. I blame this lack of speed in plot on the
fact that I haven't read the first book. However, with a
little diligence on my part and the aid of the glossary, I
caught on fairly quickly. Sara Douglass has created an epic tale that contains wars,
intrigues, adventure, mystery, and romance. THE ENCHANTER
is filled with numerous characters and has as much
treachery and intrigue as a Plantagenet court. One aspect
of the book that I found rather disturbing was that many of
the characters quite readily changed love interests,
especially the Icarii birdmen. However, culturally this
seemed an accepted practice for the Icarii. My feelings toward Axis are rather ambivalent. He is at
times rather ruthless, but he has to be ruthless in order
to defeat Gorgrael. Even so, I don't find this character
trait enjoyable. This book is not a light, quick read. It requires some
concentration and attention in order to finish the book.
All in all, it was a satisfying fantasy read; however, the
romance aspect was not quite as satisfying. PNR Reviews © Copyright June 2002
