REVIEW

"magical, gorgeous journey through splendid palaces and dark crypts."

Wow! What a book! I'm a big fan of fantasy anyway, the kind that takes you to away to another time and place. But THE NOVICE'S SONG was so beautiful, it was sad to see it end.

The story revolves around the life of Nanshe who is a priestess and the daughter of the goddess Inanna. She is saved from death and given a rich life in the temple because of her spiritual gifts. The story is set in Sumer, a part of Mesopotamia, in a time we can only dream about. It is a time of wonders and magic, of dark forces and immortals and gods who walk the land.

THE NOVICE'S SONG is also the love story of Nanshe and Arteya. They share, not only their love and themselves but a spiritual and psychic connection that is a pleasure to share with them.

Don't let the opening of this book fool you! It might sound like a dusty tome with ancient writings and nods to people who deciphered the words that author Kim Denham quotes. But it is a magical, gorgeous journey through splendid palaces and dark crypts. Golden words grace these pages with laughter and love, light and dark. I thoroughly enjoyed this breathtaking work and I will be watching and waiting for Kim Denham's next book!

SUMMARY

Mat Sumeri (The Land of Sumer) 2500 BC

The gods and goddesses dwell in the heavens. They also abide in the Abzu and the Netherworld, but on the island that floats beneath the great dome, they rarely venture beyond their temples. In times gone by they walked the earth more frequently, but that was before they thought to make people. They endowed people with such skills as herding and sowing, and once the humans took over these labors, the immortals were free to do grander things. And yet, despite their freedom, they continued to take an interest in the moments of people.
