"A good medical romance"
Western Hospital public relations specialist Catherine
Prentice feels the world is earthquaking with her at the
epicenter. Her former husband plans to gain custody of
their two children though he spoils them when they stay
with him and his new wife. At work, her boss implies that
if she fails to gain the cooperation of difficult (except
to his little patients) Neonatologist Dr. Martin Connaghton
to appear on a TV show, her probation will end with her
release. On the highway, Martin stops to help Rita Hodge give birth
to triplets that make them media darlings. All three
babies are premature births but Holly, the last one born is
struggling to survive. Soon the press phobic Martin finds
himself in the middle of a medical debate played out in
public with only Catherine, risking all, on his side. Janice MacDonald delivers a strong medical romance that
provides no anesthesia to the reader as it focuses on
difficult dilemmas facing modern healers. The story line
is filled with too much angst and plenty of sadness as
little Holly struggles for life. Though Catherine is a
great character struggling with titanic woes, her problems
pale next to those of Holly. Janice MacDonald furbishes
tearjerker that only lacks an occasional breath from its
many characters in turmoil. Harriet Klausner
