"A fun vampire book"

This is a fun vampire book.. fun being the operative word as this is really funny in a deadpan sort of way. DEAD UNTIL DARK is not a romance... more of a paranormal mystery set in rural Louisiana in a unspecified time in the near future. Sookie Stackhouse's grandmother wants her to get a nice boyfriend and settle down. The trouble is Sookie has a 'disability' -- she can read people's thoughts and this makes dating awkward. Just imagine know exactly what you date is thinking about! She finally meets a man whose thoughts are closed to her and she's thrilled and so is grandma. BUT Bill just happens to be a vampire...not exactly what grandma had in mind.

There's even a second vampire with his eyes on Sookie. Throw in a shapeshifter; a serial killer; a few other vampires; Sookie's Lothario of a brother, and small town politics and you have a fun story. There is one hilarious scene where Bill talks to the local chapter of Descendents of the Glorious Dead about his own memories of The War.

The mystery gets unraveled but the ending is such I suspect a sequel or sequels are planned.

SUMMARY

A Southern Vampire Mystery

Sookie Stackhouse is a small-time cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana. She's quiet, keeps to herself, and doesn't get out much. Not because she's not pretty. She is. It's just that, well, Sookie has this sort of "disability". She can read minds. And that doesn't make her too dateable.

And then along comes Bill. He's tall, dark, handsome--and Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. He's exactly the type of guy she's been waiting for all her life . . .

But Bill has a disability of his own: He's a vampire with a bad reputation. He hangs with a seriously creepy crowd, all suspected of--big surprise--murder. And when one of Sookie's coworkers is killed, she fears she's next . . .
