"I was transported to the Salisbury plain in all its sunny, windswept glory"

Archaeologist Daniel Logan's life was on track. In a loving, committed relationship with the man who used to be his professor and on the way to become the youngest assistant department head at his University. He was happy. Until the track comes to a sudden screeching end and leaves his life in ruins. Daniel's lover takes his own life, no reason, no explanation. Scrambling for meaning and a reason to go on himself, Daniel begins a search for The Salisbury Key, the other passion of his lover's life. Unfortunately The Key lies in the heart of the Salisbury Plain and within the borders of an explosive laden military zone. The only way to access it is with the help of prickly army explosive expert, Lieutenant Rayne. As an unlikely attraction develops between them their search uncovers a terrible secret that could mean the end of the world. A secret that powerful people will kill to protect.

I LOVED this book. There were times in the beginning where this wasn't a comfortable read. I wasn't sure how Harper Fox was going to bring Daniel out of his grief and into a place where he could find happiness again. She did it with style and I really enjoyed the journey. This writer has a real gift for painting a picture and for writing regional British accents. I was transported to the Salisbury plain in all its sunny, windswept glory. The relationship between Daniel and Rayne was developed sympathetically and with a dash of realism that I appreciated. Love and life doesn't always go according to plan and they don't listen to anyone's schedule but their own.

Can love repair a shattered life in time to save the world?

Daniel Logan is on a lonely quest to find out what drove his lover, a wealthy, respected archaeologist, to take his own life. The answer—the elusive “key” for which Jason was desperately searching—lies somewhere on a dangerous and deadly section of Salisbury Plain.

The only way to gain access, though, is to allow an army explosives expert to help him navigate the bomb-riddled military zone. A man he met once more than three years ago, who is even more serious and enigmatic than before.

Lieutenant Rayne has better things to do than risk his life protecting a scientist on an apparent suicide mission. Like get back to Iraq and prove he will never again miss another roadside bomb. Yet as he helps Dan uncover the truth, an attraction neither man is in the mood for springs up against their will. And stirs up the nervous attention of powerfully placed people—military and academic alike.

First in conflict, then in passion, Rayne and Dan are drawn together in a relationship as rocky and complicated as the ancient land they search. Where every step leads them closer to a terrible legacy written in death… Product Warnings
