"a unique YA fantasy, a lot of action and just enough romance"
A Dragon's Awakening is the first book in a young
adult
fantasy series. Dragons have been hunted and killed for
years and Kale, a young dragon, is the last of his kind. He
is being hunted by General Jedah and his knights, some of
whom are being forced into serving Jedah. An old sorcerer
named Thomas helps Kale escape from Jedah using a spell
from a mysterious source which turns Kale into a young
human male. The duo flee to another town and blend in with
the townspeople, staying low until they can devise a plan
to avoid Jedah for good. Along the way, they meet others
who can help them in their quest to defeat General Jedah
and save Kale's life. But during their adventures, Kale and
the others meet with much adversity and surprises that will
affect the lives of them and the lives of many innocents. This book was very good. The characters are well thought
out and the author knows exactly how to make you root for
the heroes, and despise and await the demise of the
villains. The story has a lot of action and just enough
romance, it keeps you interested in reading to find out
what happens at the end. There are a few surprises along
the way, although you might have been able to pick up on
some of them early on. But as for the ending, that is a
huge cliffhanger, and I hope the author finishes the second
book quickly and keeps it just as interesting as this one.
If you read this book, you definitely will want to continue
to the next book to find out what happens. I do not
usually read novels geared toward young adults, but this
one is a unique fantasy, and I am glad to have read it.
