"double the PLEASURE...two love stories in one book"
Sagan, who is taken prisoner by the evil Acadian's
henchmen, is saved by a most unlikely source, Valera, a
witch. Witches are the enemy of all Nightwalkers, and they
are hunted because of the evil they do upon the Nightwalker
races. However, Valera is different and Sagan can sense
her goodness. Valera and Sagan fall in love, but she is a
human witch and he is a Shadowdweller. Meanwhile, Malaya, one of the Royal Chancellors for the
Shadowdwellers is having problems with the Senate, because
they wish to force a marriage on her in compliance with an
archaic law. Unfortunately, Guin, Malaya's bodyguard and
most faithful friend, is secretly in love with her and
takes exception to the Senate's decree. All the while, the
evil Aradian plots behind the scenes to cause pain and gain
power. PLEASURE tells two love stories in one book, and while
Sagan's story is the shorter of the two, it is complete and
very sweet. This reader is glad that tough, loner, Sagan
found someone. There is, also, a chance for understanding
and healing between some of the witches and the Nightwalker
communities. Valera is a great character, and her cats are
a real hoot. These cats have the right attitude and say
exactly what I imagine cats would say. Malaya and Guin's relationship is much more of a struggle.
Mainly, because the long-suffering Guin, who is low born
and a former assassin, thinks himself unworthy of Malaya
and keeps his feelings hidden. When it seems that a
loveless marriage is to be thrust upon Malaya, Guin can no
longer suffer in silence. Malaya is a bit dense about
Guin's feelings and unaware of her own growing love, but
she refuses to lose him. These two make a great couple--
they balance each other and make each other a better person. PLEASURE is aptly named, for it is a great pleasure to read
and makes a wonderful addition to the Shadowdwellers
series. I'm totally absorbed in this series and hope to
see many more volumes taking place in this unique world.

Her bodyguard, Guin, knows this only too well. For tradition's sake, Malaya must marry, and the thought of this lush, vibrant, woman in a loveless union is impossible for him to bear.
