"Another great story in the Psy/Changeling Series!"
Once again we get to visit the world of the Psy and
Changelings. However, this excursion is a bit different.
This time, we learn about a different type of Psy—the Js. A
J Psy has the ability to slip into minds and retrieve
memories and now they work in the justice field with
Enforcement. Unfortunately, Js don't have a long lifespan.
With the work they do, most of them only manage to do their
jobs for about ten years. The lucky ones get desk jobs
after that. The unlucky ones—and that would be most of them—
end up undergoing a thorough rehabilitation. Sophia Russo
has been working for twelve years now and she knows her
time is short. Her telepathic shields are barely holding
and she's also become a Sensitive. Her current assignment
is to get the locations of the victims of the Park Avenue
Butcher—a man who is evil personified. Trying to get
anything out of a sociopath is almost impossible for a J
because every memory is as the person wished to see it, not
as it really occurred. Not surprisingly, Sophia doesn't get
anything out of Bonner, he was only playing everyone again. Detective Max Shannon has been with Enforcement his whole
career. Since Enforcement is basically Psy, it's kind of a
surprise Max has risen as high as he has, especially
considering he has a natural shield the Psy can't penetrate—
very rare in humans. Right now, he only wants to bring
peace to the victims' families of the Park Avenue Butcher.
Max was able to catch the Butcher, but they only found the
body of one of his victims. They know there have been more,
but Enforcement hasn't been able to find the bodies. Now
that the Butcher is behind bars, Max is surprised when he
receives a new assignment. The new assignment is to find
out if there is a plot to assassinate Psy Councilor Nikita
Duncan. Seems a few of her key employees have died
recently. Even though all have been claimed to be suicides,
the Councilor wants an investigation into their deaths by
an independent party and she specifically requested Max.
Max doesn't complain too much when he finds out his partner
will be Sophia Russo. After all, he's been attracted to her
for quite some time now. As Max and Sophia work together, they find themselves
attracted to each other—in itself a surprise considering
Sophia is Psy. They also find that Nikita might not be as
paranoid as they originally thought. Is there a chance for a happily ever after for Max and
Sophia? Will Sophia survive long enough to find out, or
will her shields totally disintegrate? Who is behind the
plot to kill Councilor Nikita Duncan and will her daughter,
Sascha become a target? How will the DarkRiver pack respond
to that? BONDS OF JUSTICE is an unforgettable story. Once again
Nalini Singh comes through and proves why she's on my
autobuy list. This is one of the most touching stories I
have read in quite some time. Our hero, Max is still coming
to terms with why his mother hated him and whether his
younger brother is dead or alive. And Sophia is living on
borrowed time, literally. I just love seeing how these
alpha men break the Silence of their Psy women and just how
tender they can be. While each of the Psy/Changeling books
tells the story of one couple, we also get to learn what's
going on with those couples we've already come to love. Not
to mention, a little more of the whole plot underlying each
story comes to light. In this one, lines have been drawn
between the Psy Councilors. Can't wait to see what happens
next. This is one series you don't want to miss!

Return to the powerful, turbulent Psy/Changeling world created by the “amazingly talented”* Nalini Singh, as a human detective finds himself working the most unlikely of cases—in the dark heart of a Councilor’s domain… Max Shannon is a good cop, one of the best in New York Enforcement. Born with a natural shield that protects him against Psy mental invasions, he knows he has little chance of advancement within the Psy-dominated power structure. The last case he expects to be assigned is that of a murderer targeting a Psy Councilor’s closest advisors. And the last woman he expects to compel him in the most sensual of ways is a Psy on the verge of a catastrophic mental fracture… Sophia Russo is a Justice-Psy, cursed with the ability to retrieve memories from men and women so twisted even veteran cops keep their distance.
