"Superb storytelling!"
The second Alpha and Omega book starts just a few weeks
after the events of Cry Wolf. Anna is still coming
to terms with her relationship with Charles, and learning
how to be an omega wolf, whereas Charles is learning to
readjust his life, and animalistic side, to Anna. In the
midst of this, Charles' father, Bran, wants to go to
Seattle to be at a gathering of international werewolves to
discuss whether they want to "come out of the closet".
Afraid of the consequences of his father attending this
gathering, Charles decides to go in his place... and takes
Anna. The gathering begins as expected, until Anna is attacked
outside of their hotel. There is a race to determine who
is behind this attack, and why, before more attacks
occur. I loved this book starting with Chapter One and until the
last page, wishing it didn't end so quickly. As with many
Patricia Briggs books, the plot is sometimes difficult to
ascertain from the beginning. But, the story begins to
tell itself, moving seamlessly between the mysterious to
the romantic. I kept guessing at who was behind the
attacks and what would happen next in response to this
storyline. Also, I loved watching Anna grow into herself,
becoming the person she wants to be with the help of
Charles. Watching Charles around Anna is sweet, and they
act as a couple would. It is as if I know them since
everyone knows a couple that acts like Charles and Anna.
They have a lovely relationship, one that is in the early
stages, and I look forward to more stories of their life
together and the mysterious events they encounter. In my opinion, Patricia Briggs is one of the premier
storytellers of the fantasy genre and Hunting Ground
highlights her amazing abilities as an author.

This will be the second book in the Alpha and Omega series, featuring Anna and Charles. It's set on a slightly earlier time-table than the Mercy books. Mated to werewolf Charles Cornick, the son—and enforcer—of the leader of the North American werewolves, Anna Latham now knows how dangerous being a werewolf is, especially when a werewolf who opposes Charles and his father is struck down. Charles’s reputation makes him the prime suspect, and the penalty for the crime is execution. Now Anna and Charles must combine their talents to hunt down the real killer—or Charles will take the fall. Genre: Urban Fantasy
