"Touching story of love and redemption."

James "Jamie" MacGivern is a Lycant. His kind were created in a government laboratory for one thing and one thing only— to kill. Once his mission was completed, Jamie and three other Lycants were taken to Draeton, where they were brutally tortured. Jamie alone survived. When once again his services were needed, Jamie was released from Draeton and after the kill, Jamie was given a full pardon. Since that time, he settled in the Pionos Mountains—an uninhabited region. While out hunting one day, Jamie watches as a plane goes down. Against his better judgment and in the pouring rain, Jamie goes to investigate the crash site. When he gets there, he sees two people—a man and a woman handcuffed. The man is dead, so Jamie leaves him alone and manages to get the cuffs off the woman. And what a woman—beautiful and everything Jamie has ever wanted in a mate. Since she was handcuffed, Jamie assumes she was the prisoner. So he takes her back to his cabin in the middle of a cave. Once there, he does what he can for her and realizes he must go back to the crash site and make it look as if she fell off a cliff and into a raging river. Even though he doesn't want to leave the woman, he does— only after cuffing her to the bedframe. After he's accomplished his task, he goes back to his cabin and the woman. Now he's decided to keep her and since she still hasn't woken up, he calls her Mairi.

When Allison finally regains consciousness, she finds herself in a bed, having no idea how she got there. In fact, she can't remember anything—including her name. So when Jamie tells her she's his wife and her name is Mairi, she believes it. While making love with the man she thought was her husband, Allison's memory returns. She's an agent for the government and she was taking a white-collar criminal to justice when the plane went down. Also, she remembers her husband shooting her lover—another agent—when he found the two of them in bed together. Realizing the gorgeous Highlander she's with now is more of a man than her husband or her lover, Allison decides to become Mairi and renounce her former life. Of course, she realizes it won't be that easy. Her lover will look for her, and he's not the type to give up easily.

Not surprisingly, a team shows up in the closest village to Jamie's cabin, Lamb's Grove and requests Jamie's help in finding Allison. Of course, Jamie isn't the only inhabitant of the Pionos Mountains, the Guardian—or An Fear Liath Mor— also lives there. A terrible creature with amazing powers who guards the gateway not only to the Abyss, but also to the afterlife. Even Jamie won't wander into the Guardian's territory without permission.

Will Jamie take the team of government agents to his Mairi? Will he lead them into the Guardian's territory? Will Jamie and Mairi ever the chance to live a life free of government interference?

WYNDSHEER is a touching story of redemption and love. Once again, Charlotte Boyett-Compo weaves her magic into a story which pulled me into it from the very first page and wouldn't let go until it was finished. We have a man, created in a laboratory, brutally tortured, who has become a loner, apart from any kind of society. Then we have a woman, pressured into a marriage with a man she doesn't love and who doesn't love her. Watching them come together and learn acceptance and love is a rare treat. As with all of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's stories, I highly recommend this one as well. They're like potato chips, you can't stop at just one!
