"A brilliant, captivating read!"
Kefira Armand is the hybrid daughter of a human woman and a
Miratan lion male, while Tad Barton is the human son of the
World Federation's president, and they have sworn from
childhood to be best friends forever. However, a
misunderstanding drives them apart for twenty years. When
they accepted a mission to help industrialize a small,
primitive planet, they are held captive aboard a travelling
spaceship to their destination. To save themselves, they
have to set aside their differences and open their minds
and souls to the other... This is book 6 in the StarQuest series, however, you need
not read books 1 to 5 in order to understand and enjoy this
short story. Kefira is a misfit, but she doesn't try to fit
in. I like the way she finds her own way in the worlds of
both human and lion, the way she's proud of herself as an
offspring of both worlds. She doesn't really miss anything
or want anything else in her life, except for the
friendship of Tad, the one man she's loved all her life. I've always loved the friends-turned-lovers trope, and this
book brilliantly portrays Kefira's and Tad's story in that
respect. I love the way Ms. Douglas described their
yearning for the other and the anguish each suffered when
they thought the other didn't want or love them. Just
delicious! I'm not a masochist, but I so love angst. Even
knowing that they would have a happy ending, I find myself
rooting for them to get past their misunderstandings to
attain the love they each longed for for so long. I was dismayed to read in the blurb that this would be the
final chapter in the StarQuest saga. I hope Ms. Douglas
would continue to write more books in this world, but if
not, there are still books 1 to 5 for me to immerse myself
in the StarQuest world.
