As the lone female dragonrider, Elera alone has the ability
to ride the bull dragon. Orphaned at an early age and
raised by her paternal grandfather, Elera has always been
spirited and is a warrior in her own right. Under pressure
to mate with Ronin, the alpha warrior of her clan, Elera
leaves her land in search of a mate of her choosing. Also orphaned as a young child, Karl has pledged his life
to that of the Mattaen, an ancient order of warrior monks.
Upon hearing tales of mythical dragons, Karl discovers a
virginal girl being led to sacrifice by the village
elders. Convinced the elders are delusional in their
beliefs, Karl offers up himself in her stead to prove there
are no such creatures. However, within minutes of his
on "virginal sacrifice", Karl is dismayed when he comes
face-to-face with a "red-eyed, snarling, slime-slicked
teeth dragon." When a woman warrior comes to his rescue and slays the
dragon, she demands her payment from the village -- one
night with the virgin sacrifice. Being an Initiate of the
Mattaen, Karl has studied that which he has vowed to
abstain from - how to make love to a woman -- but at 30
years old, he has never known the physical pleasures of a
woman. But after succumbing to the beautiful dragonrider's
seductive charms, Karl awakes to find himself alone.
Determined to find out more about Elera, Karl sets out on a
journey that will change the course of his life. Breath of Fire is a fast-paced, romantic fantasy set
in a fantastical realm of dragons and ancient
civilizations. Lush scenery and strong, independent
characters makes this debut novel from Ms. Kane an
absolutely delightful and enthralling read that I'm sure
fans of paranormal romance will love. I eagerly await the
next book in this new and unique fantasy series.
