"a treat for sci-fi junkies"
Puss & Boots in the 23rd Century was an interesting
and lengthy story. It is based upon the mercenary scenario.
Boots and Puss are soldiers of fortune, lovers, friends and
very good at what they do. In the 23rd Century, the NET
rules and mercenaries are around to hunt down anyone who
disagrees with that. But when they meet Bila, a tall, gorgeous hunk of Cro-
Magnan man things get a little odd (er). He draws them
pictures of Wooly Mammoths as if they are still living.
They are, where he came from. Bila becomes leader of the
group as they trek off to find what the The NET is really
up to - they are pretty sure it isn't just "spying". While I was a bit put off by the size of this book (over
600 pages!) it was interesting. The characters interacted
very well and had obviously been together for quite some
time. They also integrated Bila into their group and made
his piece of the threesome well done. However, I do feel
the story probably could have been told in less pages. The
dialogue is a tad different. I know the timeframe is more
than 200 years from now, but when I got enthused about a
scenario; some odd phrase popped up and threw me off a bit.
All that said, the plot is great and sometimes even
humorous. I know that sci-fi junkies will LOVE it!
