"What happens when you mix fire and water?"
In an alternate reality, magical creatures like dragons and
mer people really do exist. An evil Empire rules the earth,
and it will take the combined efforts of all the mythical
beings to bring it down. Libby is special. Not only is she a dragon, but she is
female, which was very rare. After the Emperor's soldiers
killed her best friend, she vowed to see the whole empire
destroyed. Escaping after a botched attack on the ruler,
she found herself on board a ship captained and manned by
mer-people, all of whom have secrets. Swann is the captain of the Swift Revenge, a ship dedicated
to fighting the Empire. Directed by the Empress to meet a
dragon and take him to safety, Swann is stunned to find
the "boy" he pulled out of the ocean was really a woman.
Instantly attracted to her, he takes her to safety. But
powers beyond their control are conspiring against them.
Will Swann and Libby be able to be together? Will they be
able to defeat the wicked Emperor, and save their world? EMPIRE: BURNING DESIRE was an amazing story. I have not
read very many stories with merpeople in them, but this one
was very well done. Swann's character was so tortured-both
literally, courtesy of the Empire, and figuratively because
of the pain in his past, but he still was strong enough to
allow himself to fall for Libby, and to trust her to save
him when he needed it. Libby's character was also very well
done. She was strong, but not overbearing, and willing to
do what she had to in order to save Swann, even if it meant
giving herself up into slavery. The ending was true poetic
justice, and very satisfying. Let's just say that everyone
got what they deserved, especially the emperor who caused
so much pain. The romance between Swann and Libby was red
hot, but it wasn't just mindless sex, because it was
obvious there were real feelings between the two of them,
which made it even better. All in all, this is an excellent
story!

No one hides from the Empire. They see everything, they know everything.
