"by the end of the book I was hooked."
Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world
but it meant nothing to Merit. That is until she gets
attacked and is turned into one of the above mentioned
bloodsuckers. With no say in the decision she wakes up
three days later to find her whole life has been changed
for her and she isn't happy about it. Not one little bit! Although it turns out that the vampire who saved her is the
master of one of the local vampire houses, Merit still
doesn't really care. Then she also finds out that they
expect her to join them which isn't too appealing. And then
to top things off Merit doesn't exactly get off on the
right foot with the house master, Ethan who would like
nothing more than to punish her. However it then becomes
clear that Merit has some abilities and powers that other
vampires don't have and Ethan sees her in a different
light. Unfortunately not the sunlight... Between all the changes there is one thing that keeps
coming up. Merit's attacker is still out on the loose and
has claimed more victims, who weren't as lucky, or
depending on how you look it, unlucky as Merit was. Now she
has to help her new vampire family find the one responsible
for the killings before a war breaks out between the
vampire houses. This first book in the Chicagoland Vampire series is
certainly worth reading. At first I thought, due to the
cover, that this was a young adult series but after reading
a review somewhere I realised this indeed is aimed at
adults. Of course being the first book in a series it had
alot of ground work to do but by the end of the book I was
hooked. Merit is a stubborn but feisty character who obviously
hasn't yet realised that she is actually having a better
life now as a vampire. It will be interesting to see how
things develop in the series after seeing how quick Merit
got her vamp on and stepped in to the position she needed
to fill. Thankfully the wait till book two called Friday Night Bites
is a short one. Due out in October, I already put it on my
pre-order list but obviously I would not be against an
early copy if anyone is offering ;) It is nice to find another new vampire series by another
new author that isn't the same as every other vampire book
before it. Some Girls Bite manages to be new and
original as well as exciting. Kudos to another author
pulling off something different for the genre!
