"Ms. Guy has added more twists and turns to her ghostly Spirit Lake."
In Echoes of the Past, I returned to Spirit Lake
with Erica and Joe. Erica has been away for a few months
and has agreed to return to help Evelyn run the Spirit Lake
Inn. Evelyn fell down the stairs and will be in rehab for a
while, but she has a few reservations and needs Erica's
help. Erica is reluctant to return, partially because of
Joe, but she finds herself agreeing to help. Erica takes
her friend, Paula, along to help. Paula is intuitive and is
interested in Spirit Lake, after the experiences that Erica
has during her first visit. Upon arriving, Paula knows that the Spirit Lake Inn has
high spirit activity. Neither Erica nor Paula have any clue
that their next several days are going to be riddled with
unexplained haunting, accidents, and even a murder and
attempted murder. After reading the first book, Spirit Lake, I was so
engrossed in the plot that I knew I had to read Echoes
of the Past. Ms. Guy has woven a highly addictive story
with the Spirit Lake Inn and I cannot seem to get enough of
it. She does a great job of twisting and turning the plot
to keep her readers on the edge of their seats; and also of
describing everything in intricate detail. Again in this
book, I felt that a little something was missing with the
character development. The characters are good and quite a
bit of time is spent on developing them, but there is not
much distinction between the main and secondary characters
and it just seems that they just didn't jump off the pages
as real people for me. That being said, the plot kept me
pulled in to the point of losing myself in the story. When
I realized the book was nearing a close, but the loose ends
had not been tied up, I began to worry that I would be left
hanging. However, after reading the epilogue, I am quite
sure that there will be a third book. I, for one, can't
wait to read the third book, because I am dying to know the
rest of the story of Spirit Lake.
