"a truly delightful read that left me wanting more"
After being uprooted from the small town where she grew up,
sixteen year old Bianca is not happy to learn that she will
now be attending the very private and prestigious Evernight
Academy where her parent's will also be teaching.
Intelligent, but suffering from extreme shyness, Bianca
knows immediately that she doesn't fit in with all
the "beautiful" people who surround her. When the first
day of school arrives, all Bianca knows is she just has to
get away - if for no other reason than to make her parent's
see how miserable she really is and to prove her point.
During her half-hearted attempt at running away, Bianca
didn't count on literally running into the very handsome
and brooding Lucas, who immediately warns her to not only
be cautious of the students and teachers, but also of him.
Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard to reason with your
heart and Bianca and Lucas soon find themselves falling for
each other. But what neither of them knows is that the
other is withholding dark secrets that could put their
lives -- and those around them - in danger.
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed Evernight,
which is not only the debut book, but also the first book
of young adult author Claudia Gray's Evernight
series . Once I started reading it, I just didn't want to
put it down. With a dark and Gothic feel to it, it didn't
take long for me to get wrapped up in the star-crossed
romance between Lucas and Bianca. It very much reminded me
of Romeo and Juliet, but with a contemporary,
paranormal twist. This plot also has some very interesting
turns and surprises that I didn't quite see coming. Of
course, I suspected a few things here and there, but Ms.
Gray still managed to catch me off-guard, which I
completely loved! I can't really divulge anymore of the
story without exposing some major spoilers, but I will say
that, Evernight with its dark and edgy, yet romantic
storyline was a truly delightful read and definitely left
me wanting more. You can follow Lucas and Bianca in the
second book, Stargazer which released March 24, 2009.

Bianca wants to escape.
She's been uprooted from her small hometown and enrolled at Evernight Academy, an eerie Gothic boarding school where the students are somehow too perfect: smart, sleek, and almost predatory. Bianca knows she doesn't fit in.
Then she meets Lucas. He's not the "Evernight type" either, and he likes it that way. Lucas ignores the rules, stands up to the snobs, and warns Bianca to be careful—even when it comes to caring about him.
"I couldn't stand it if they took it out on you," he tells Bianca, "and eventually they would."
But the connection between Bianca and Lucas can't be denied. Bianca will risk anything to be with Lucas, but dark secrets are fated to tear them apart . . . and to make Bianca question everything she's ever believed.
