"a gripping suspense tale"
Police Capt. Jess Vandermire and Lt. John Brittain team up
again in BEYOND THE GRAVE, Lina Gardiner's fabulous follow-
up to GRAVE ILLUSIONS. This gripping suspense tale will
have readers racing to the end, most likely in one sitting.
A killer with a penchant for well-to-do brunettes roams
loose in New York. Bodies of dead women begin to appear,
and Jess and Britt must figure out who's behind the
attacks. But there's a problem. The appearance of the
corpses coincides with strange periods in which Jess, a
vampire, has blacked out. She has no idea where she's been
or what she's done. With the help of her brother's prayers—
Regent, a priest—she has so far maintained some of her
soul's humanity unlike many other vampires. But the clues
stack up against her, and she fears she may have killed
these women. Britt knows she hasn't murdered anyone, but
establishing her innocence proves difficult.
The romantic tension continues between Jess and Britt as
well. They share a mutual attraction, but Jess fears she
can't have a normal relationship, so she distances herself
from Britt, but he refuses to give up, hoping to weaken her
defenses. But, after Jess almost bites him, he does need to
face the reality that she's not your typical girl next door.
Lina Gardiner has once again captivated fans with BEYOND
THE GRAVE, a vampire police procedural. Fast-paced and
filled with intrigue, Gardiner has written an exciting
story starring those terrific characters fans have come to
admire. I highly recommend it to any mystery and/or vampire
fans. She writes her evil characters just as well as the
good ones. Suspense abounds, guaranteeing shivers down the
spine. The only caveat: the ending will leave readers
drooling for the third installment.

Vampire Police Captain Jess Vandermire is hunting a serial killer vampire. The trouble is, Jess is experiencing blackouts, and every time she does, another woman turns up dead. Has she slipped over the dangerous slope into full vampirism? Is she the serial killer she’s hunting?
Lieutenant John Brittain makes it his job to find the killer and prove Jess innocent, but it’s hard to be human in a world of super-strong, super-fast vampires. His best weapon is his tough-cop intellect and he’s using it for all he’s worth. Yes, Jess is a vampire, and yes, she’s capable of killing. He knows, however, that she hasn’t committed these crimes, and he has the horrible feeling that if doesn’t catch the killer soon Jess will be the final victim.
As Jess and Britt wage war against this evil vampire, it becomes a battle for the last vestiges of Jess’s own humanity. Soon the question becomes, who will draw first blood?
