"an extremely satisfying read"
The Queen of Shadowland must choose her husband, who will
in turn be the king. If she does not choose well, the
entire land of Janus will be unbalanced. Janus is divided
in three parts; Shadowland, Lightside and Darkside. There
is an extreme low birth rate on the planet due to its lack
of tilt and spin. The Queen, Audryn, must choose the best
man for not only her people, but for all of Janus. A suitor
is sent from the Lightside, and one from the Darkside to
try to win the hand of the Queen. Queen of Shadow, by Suz deMello, leaves no stone
unturned in the quest for the perfect mate. Audryn, has the
utmost difficult task of satisfying all of her urges and
cravings, without the one thing that would bring her the
most pleasure, penetration. Her body was explored in ways
that left this reader both in awe, and slightly jealous.
Suz deMello kept each scene fresh and exciting through a
maze of partners and settings. The lay of the land, scenery, and description of each
portion of the planet were described with vivid imagery.
The Planet Janus all but leapt off the pages and into my
imagination. The story is told in first person by the Queen
Audryn. It was delightful to experience the wide range of
experiences with such a strong character. The hero
complimented the Queen in all ways, catering to her wants
and desires. The strength of his personality matched hers
well. I simply adored the catch phrases thrown in. The play on
historical occurrences and names added a fun element to
this tale. I think Suz deMello has done a wonderful job
creating any woman's dream... a harem of men at her beck
and call, and an extremely satisfying happily ever after
with a hero that leaves her breathless.

| SUMMARY |
|
Janus is a planet which lacks both tilt and spin, and its Shadowlands are the pewter band of dusk dividing the violently hot Lightside of the planet from its Darkside, imprisoned by eternal night. Due to moderate temperatures, the Shadowlands are the most livable portion of Janus, the most heavily populated and wealthiest. Because of the peculiar conformation of the planet, birthrates are low and indiscriminate sex is encouraged for everyone except the unmated Queen of Shadow, themost powerful person on Janus. She cannot fully indulge her lust; should she become pregnant, her baby's father would become King of Shadow. Audryn, Queen of Shadow, has reached that time in her life when she must choose a King to rule with her or fail to bear an heir, casting not only her realm but all of Janus into chaos. Despite her duty, she is reluctant to share power, even a bit distrustful. Certain Shadowland nobles vie for Audryn’s hand, and rival factions of DarkDwellersfight among themselves for the right to send candidates. The more organized Children of Light send their Prince-Scientist to woo Audryn. Although she enjoys trysting with all her suitors, none seize her heart. Then Storne, the warrior Prince of Darkness, arrives to claim her as his bride. Will his masterful ways allure or repel the willful Queen?
