"Chilling story of true evil."
Jessica Beckett is not a normal bounty hunter. She has her
own agenda, which has nothing to do with being paid for
catching creeps. As a child, Jessica was held by a
pedophile and still bears the scars. The only person who
knows what happened then is her best friend Sam, a cop, and
even Sam doesn't know everything Jessica went through.
Right now, Jessica has her sights set on Lucas Baker. She
knows he's up to something. So with her summer intern, Seth
Harper, Jessica decides to bring him down. Even though the
bust goes bad, Jessica does manage to grab Baker's laptop
and stash it. Meanwhile, in Alaska, ex-football legend, Payton Archer
finds out his seventeen-year-old niece is missing. Along
with family friend, Joe Tanu, Payton immediately follows
any and all available leads into his niece's disappearance.
With Nikki being seventeen and having run away before,
there is not a high priority put on her disappearance, but
Joe knows this time is different and Payton's niece is in
terrible danger. After delivering Baker's laptop back to him—with the
addition of one or two little things by Seth—Jessica has
nothing to do but wait. Something she doesn't do very well.
Of course, when it turns out Baker is murdered and his
laptop taken from the scene, Jessica becomes more
determined than ever to find out what is going on and what
Baker was involved in. Will Payton ever find his niece again? How is Nikki
involved in what Jessica is investigating? What will happen
when Payton and Jessica meet? And who is Seth Harper,
Jessica's "intern"? EVIL WITHOUT A FACE, first in the SWEET JUSTICE series,
hits the ground running with nonstop action. Once again,
author Jordan Dane tells an exciting story in her down-to-
earth, gritty style that kept me turning pages way beyond
my bedtime. On the one hand, we have Jessica, scarred
inside and outside, who must come to terms with her past
before she can have a future. We also have Payton, another
wounded hero, who hasn't done much other than hit the
bottle since he lost his pro-football career. And we get
ringside seats as these two very different people come
together to find Nikki and begin to heal. The secondary
characters, such as Sam and Joe, are just as interesting as
the primary. This story has it all—terrific plot;
fascinating characters; written in a great style; even the
heartfelt sigh at the end. With this story, Jordan Dane
removes any doubt as to why she is on my auto-buy list.
