"an alien invasion of Earth"

The premise: Ed and Evelyn, co-workers in the intelligence gathering field, become worried when the Earth is suddenly visited by a black sphere-like vessel which immediately discharges a wormy creature. This creature ("Gud") becomes the focus of over half of mankind. They treat it like a God and everyone rushes to do its bidding. The spheres seem to be particularly interested in Evelyn. Why?

Through a series of adventures Ed and Evelyn lead a team into the Gud Territory in an attempt to stop its influence over Mankind and regain the country as it once was. To find out whether they are successful or not depends on your reading of the book!

Aliens have arrived on earth to save the human race from a future catastrophe. But it is up to a small band of determined people led by Edward Lektor, a security specialist, and Evelyn Lin, a beautiful Asian who works for the company that helped bring the aliens to earth, to figure out what the aliens are up to and how to stop them. Complicating their task is the fact that half the human race perceives the powerful aliens as gods and succumbs completely to a new religion of the Devoted.
