"A new author added to my auto-buy list!"
Ever since Sadie Novak cleaned up after her brother shot
himself, she's been able to speak to dead people. May be
why she decided to start a new business, Scene-2-Clean,
cleaning up decomp scenes. Of course, after her friend Egan
helped her out of a tight spot, Sadie's also cleaning up
meth lab sites. Which is why Sadie and Zack—her ex-cop
employee, and one-time lover—now find themselves doing the
clean up in a biker meth lab. After being attacked by a
mean Rottie—that just happens to be dead—Sadie and Zack
both see a car speeding away from the scene, then they hear
it—the sound of a baby crying. Ex-cop that he is, Zack
pulls a gun and breaks into the shed they hear the crying
coming from to find a baby between the wall and a
disemboweled goat. Not surprisingly, Sadie sees another
ghost, this one of a woman wearing a long blue gown which
is red from the waist down. This woman tells Sadie she
willingly gave her baby for the cause and when Sadie tries
to pass her, she doesn't feel the normal lose-her-cookies
feeling, instead she feels burned. Zack pulls her out of
the shack and calls the police. The police do find the
ghost's body, so the place is now a crime scene. After finding the baby by the goat, Sadie is a bit creeped
out and calls her psychic friend, Maeva. Not only was the
place a meth lab, turns out the bikers are also devil
worshipers. When Sadie goes to clean another meth lab, she
finds a stash of money hidden in the walls. Now the bikers
think Sadie has stolen from them, plus she interrupted
their ceremony with the baby and are after her. Not to
mention, Sadie still doesn't know how Zack feels about her. Will the bikers get Sadie? Is there some kind of connection
between all these odd events? What of Dawn, Sadie's
pregnant sister? Will she be in danger? And don't forget
the non-relationship between Zack and Sadie. Will anything
happen between them? DEVIL MAY RIDE is an excellent, fast-paced read. Wendy
Roberts does an wonderful job of mixing humor and danger
together. Take one decomp cleaning ghost-whispering ex-
teacher, toss in an ex-cop possible boyfriend, add in a
devil worshipping gang of bikers, stolen money and we have
one fantastically funny story. I adored Hairy, Sadie's pet
rabbit. At least in this story, Sadie does get closure over
her brother's suicide. She also gets answers to more
questions than she realized she had. I have to admit, I
picked up this book prepared not to like it, but I got
caught up in the story from the very first page and
couldn't put it down. I haven't read the first story in
this series, but THE REMAINS OF THE DEAD is now at the top
of my to-buy list. Highly, highly recommend this story.

When Sadie and her sexy partner Zack stumble on evidence of a chilling cult ritual in an abandoned meth lab, Sadie comes face to face with an evil spirit unlike any she’s ever seen before. And it’s no coincidence that a bundle of stolen cash turns up at her next crime scene just in time to convince a biker gang that Sadie made off with their money. She knows the threads are connected—but how? Genre: Urban Fantasy, Ghosts, Psychic, Mystery
