"a fantastic follow-up to Playing with Fire"
In the hilarious follow-up to MacAlister's Silver Dragon
spin-off series, we pick up where Playing with Fire
ends. May Northcutt is a doppelganger to Cyrene, a naiad
who traded her common sense in order to gain a twin -- which
in hindsight was probably not the smartest move on her
part. As we learned in Playing with Fire, May is
also the wyvern mate to Gabriel Tauhou, the uber-sexy
wyvern to the Silver Dragons. As part of the deal in
becoming a doppelganger, May is bound to Magoth, a demon
lord who once walked the earth as a famous silent film star
90 years before. At the end of book one, May sacrificed
herself to save Gabriel and is now stuck back in Abaddon
where Magoth has decided it's time to make May his consort --
mostly because once she becomes his consort, he'll be
allowed to access her powers, which means Magoth will be
able to once again walk the mortal realm. That's not
something which May is really looking forward to. Of
course, it's now up to Gabriel to free May. Unfortunately,
Gabriel has agreed that it is in May's best interest to
become Magoth's consort because of the Doctrine of
Unending Conscious, which states, that "when a demon
lord accesses the world in such a manner it's in a
diminished capacity." And if Magoth is determined to walk
the mortal realm again, a "diminished capacity" would
definitely be a good thing. Unfortunately, dragon politics aren't any easier to deal
with either. When Bastien Blu calls a sarkany, a
weyr meeting called to discuss issues pertaining to
specific wyverns or sept, Gabriel decides to entrust May to
guard the Lindorm Phylactery -- a priceless dragon
artifact. However, when a power struggle within the blue
sept occurs and the weyr is attacked, chaos ensues and May
inadvertently uses the phylactery and it ends up residing
with her, which is leading to some very unsavory side-
effects for May. Katie MacAlister has penned a fantastic follow-up to
Playing with Fire with its non-stop action and
hilarious antics that we've come to expect from her
writing. As an added treat to this delicious story,
MacAlister continues to bring back past characters that
readers of the Dragon series have come to love...Aisling,
Drake, and of course, Jim -- Aisling's wisecracking demon
minion who takes the form of a shaggy Newfoundland. For
fans of Katie MacAlister, this is definitely a book you
don't want to miss! However, I would like to note that
while you could read this book as a stand-alone, I
highly recommend that you read Playing with Fire
first.

She's jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Where there’s smoke, there’s one hot New York Times bestselling author.Though May Northcott’s heart belongs to Gabriel, leader of the silver dragons, being stuck in Abaddon has significantly cooled down her love life. Especially since a demon lord is trying to woo her. Looks like May will have to barter to gain her freedom and fulfill her destiny by Gabriel’s side...
