"Ms. Ranson has a winner in this one!"
Michaela Martin, only child and a proverbial loner seeks to
pledge a campus sorority. Eager to fit in and being the
newest pledge, she is the one selected for a challenge
which, if she fails means no one will pledge that sorority
this year! The challenge...part of local legend...sit on
the beach and await the anniversary of Black Hand the
pirate's shipwreck. Horrible stories abound as to the fate
of girls who have done this before. She is to tell no one
or be voted out. Sitting on the beach, Michaela is frightened by a dark fog
rolling in and decides to give up the sorority ritual and
run. Overtaken by the fog, she wakes up on a ship, captive
of the pirate Tristan Hamilton. She thinks this is all a
dream to her and she reacts as any 21st century girl would,
not being in the least respectful and arguing everything
that is said. Tristan is entranced and makes a vow to have
her within the month. Michaela being a student of history; knows all of Tristan's
battles, wounds and of his death. She warns him but he
thinks she is insane. As she tries her best to convince
him of his future, they are attacked. Excellent story! The writing flowed beautifully and the
battle scenes were well-researched. Doesn't every girl
long for her very own pirate? Hopefully, Ms. Ranson will
write more historically-based novels. She has a winner in
this one!
