"kept me on the edge of my seat"

Aziza Lopez swore that she would help anyone that needed here. She had watched her mother suffer in pain for months before she passed away from cancer. The pain she went through watching the woman that raised her, loved her, suffer that way tore her apart. Now an empathic nurse, she is driven to help anyone in need no matter what. She can't watch anyone suffer, so she does her best to help them in any way possible. So when she is given the case of a comatose man, David Healey, this is the first time since her mother's death that Aziza has had the chance to help with the patient's recovery when all has been tried with modern medicine. But she has a fight to prove to others besides David's family that he knows who the cause of his injury was. It is hard even for her to know what happened to him, the horror of it. Can she help him wake up? Can she help David come out of his coma in time before Aziza's evil stepmother gets to David and finishes the job?

Gracie C. McKeever knows how to write a story that has paranormal intrigue along with shapeshifting beings that captured me from the first page. This was a wonderful story that builds the suspense and made me want more when it ended. The fight that David and Aziza had on their hands trying to get David to wake from his coma before it was too late kept me on the edge of my seat. I look forward to reading anything Gracie writes from this book forward.

SUMMARY

An empathic young nurse driven to help and heal others since childhood after watching her mother languish for months before finally succumbing to cancer, Aziza Lopez abhors cruelty and suffering in any form. When she is assigned comatose patient David Healey, Aziza is confronted with the depth of her abilities for the first time since her mother's death and has a chance to contribute to a patient's recovery when modern medicine fails. But can she convince anyone else outside of David's family that she knows who is responsible for his injury when she's finding it hard to deal with the knowledge herself?

The youngest of five brothers, David Healey comes from a close-knit, no-nonsense family of psychics and shapeshifters. He has never suffered fools—or demanding, jealous girlfriends—lightly. But on the eve of a bitter break-up he realizes he is about to suffer a woman scorned when he glimpses his ex behind the wheel of a car careening towards him.

Now Aziza and David are in a race to pull him out of his coma before Aziza's vengeful stepmother can get to him and finish the job she started on a dark road.
