"a rollercoaster ride of emotions, action and highly sensual romance"
Contrary to what some people might think, every day isn't
Christmas Day when you're the only daughter of St. Nick.
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, but he's
not a jolly, old fat guy! In fact, he can be overbearing,
inflexible, and a complete dictator when it comes to his
precious only daughter, Holly. Desperate to have a say in
her own life, she devises a plan to gain her freedom, at
least briefly. But can she evade Rhys, her dad's gorgeous
right-hand man, and top tracker? Does she really want to? This is the sequel to Shiloh Walker's title, Make Me
Believe, which told the story of Nikolai ("St. Nick") and
Chelly, and was part of a Christmas anthology. Though this
title stands on its own merits, after reading Hearts and
Wishes, I'm going to have to get Make Me Believe, because I
want more of the supporting characters! As well as being a
touching and highly sensual romance, this is a story that
deals with family relationships, and the hurt we
inadvertently visit upon our loved ones, as well as being a
tale fraught with danger and suspense (who knew Christmas
elves could be so murderously violent?). I thought Ms. Walker did an especially good job with her
characterizations—there's Holly, who knows she's loved and
pampered even as she grows more and more depressed and
solitary because of her father's overbearing efforts to
keep his "little girl" safe; Nik, who's so afraid to give
up any control for fear that he might lose someone he cares
about that he alienates the ones he loves most; Chelly,
torn between her love and concern for her daughter, and her
devotion to her husband; Bryan, the big brother who feels
guilty for not seeing sooner how badly Holly needed his
help; and Rhys, who has grown to admire Holly's grit and
quiet determination as much as her physical beauty, but who
is torn by his loyalty to Nik, and his assignment to hunt
down the rogue elves who threaten the safety and secrecy of
their whole world. Hearts and Wishes is a rollercoaster ride of emotions and
action, of erotic love scenes, family drama, and murderous
intrigue, brought together with style and originality by
the talented Shiloh Walker. If you like your elves hot
enough to melt snow in January, your stories fast-paced
with plenty of action, but with well fleshed-out
characters, then it's a safe bet you'll like this book.
I've already re-read it...twice!

This is the sequel to Make Me Believe. She is the daughter of one of the most famous men in existence.
Pampered, protected…and stifled. Holly will give up everything just
for a chance at freedom. Rhys knows he should keep his hands off his pupil. He agreed to teach
Holly how to use her magick, not see what kind of magick they can make
together. But she has the saddest eyes, the sweetest smile and a body
that makes him burn. Holly's loneliness and Rhys' need lead to an explosive night. But when
an unknown threat appears on the horizon, Rhys is sent to deal with
it, leaving Holly behind. A broken promise pushes her over the edge,
and desperate to escape her stifling life, she flees. But that unknown
threat has been watching—has been waiting. And if Rhys doesn't find
her soon, Holly's need for freedom is going to end up killing her.
