"Great futuristic love story!"
When Kara Millan was only ten years old, her entire village
was destroyed and she was the only survivor. The
inhabitants of the village were killed by the king's army,
who then proceeded to burn everything. When Kara built up
the courage to find help, she ran into an older boy who
tried to get her to go to the castle with him. Finally, her
uncle Rafe showed up and decked the younger man and took
Kara away with him. See, Uncle Rafe is in charge of the
Resistance and he raised Kara as a warrior. The King of
Ourlane is not a very good one. The people are barely
surviving under his rule and Kara knows she must fight to
stop this. When Darwu was only fifteen, he went to the village where
his "sacred mate" lived to try and save her. His father had
told him the rebels destroyed the village so he would be
destined never to have a "sacred mate" and rule alone,
eventually naming one of his cousins as his heir. However,
when he had his future mate and was getting ready to take
her to the castle, the leader of the rebels appeared and
knocked him out. Now bitter, Darwu, who has become known as
the Warrior Prince, does everything in his power to wipe
out the resistance. So when he gets further into the bush
than ever before and a woman, granted a beautiful woman, is
caught by two of his warriors, he can't believe his
feelings. When she tells him her name is Kara Millan,
Darwu's reaction is one of disbelief since it is the name
of his sacred mate—the same sacred mate Darwu was not able
to save. How will the two of them react now that they have found
each other? Will Darwu be able to accept Kara as the woman
she is instead of trying to mold her into someone he can
control? What of the rebellion? Is there a reason the kings
of Ourlane have been evil? DIVINE DESTINY is a very different kind of paranormal
romance. Author Gwyneth Bolton does not serve up the normal
fare of shape shifters, vampires, time travel or any of
that. This story takes place in a future Earth, one
devastated by wars. We do have some magic however, and the
whole theme of the sacred mates. This fast-paced story
caught me up in the action right from the beginning. If
you're in the mood for something a bit different, give this
one a try.

She also has to figure out a way to bring freedom to the people she has given her life to protect, even if it means betraying the man she has grown to desire and love.
