"A wonderfully told Vampire tale!"
Jaeger is not a pureblood Vector, having a human mother.
His earliest memories are of being on the run with his
mother and father. Not surprisingly, Jaeger himself was
forced into accepting banishment from the Sovereign and has
been on his own ever since. Now finding himself watching an
arrogant young man mistreating a horse, Jaeger is shocked
when he actually takes human blood. The fact he promised
his mother on her deathbed he would never do this couldn't
stop him. For some reason, the need for human blood
consumed him until he couldn't stop himself, but he knows
he did not drain the boy. Later that night, sitting in the
pub with his Illusion of an old man, he is surprised by the
appearance of one of the Chosen, Celd. From Celd, Jaeger
learns he is experiencing his Growth and the need for human
blood will only become stronger. He will no longer be able
to survive on goat's blood, nor will he be able to go into
the sun anymore. It turns out Celd has heard a "bleeder" is
in the area and he wants her to be the host of his embryo.
Upset by what Celd has told him, Jaeger takes a walk and
notices the scent of blood, which he follows. Eventually,
Jaeger finds a woman, bleeding. She was the victim of an
assault and appeals to Jaeger for help, which he freely
offers and takes her to his room at the inn. Even though he
is strongly attracted to both her and her blood, Jaeger
does the honorable thing and leaves her alone. Rhiannon is a witch, and as such, she builds up a lot of
iron in her blood. Whenever Rhiannon uses her magic, the
iron builds up even quicker, so she needs to have some of
it removed, or she will sicken and die. Eventually, she
seduces Jaeger and convinces him to take some of her blood,
which he does. Of course, now that they realize the bleeder
Celd is after is Rhiannon, they decide to leave the village
and so they run. Will the two of them be able to hide from Celd? Will Jaeger
be punished for disobeying Celd's orders by running with
Rhiannon? Will Jaeger be able to keep Rhiannon safe? Will
their love have the chance to grow? BLOOD BRED SERIES BOOK 1: GIFT OF BLOOD is a very different
vampire story. JennaKay Francis tells a story filled with a
very unique type of vampire, complete with society and
rules. We also have the addition of a witch and her society
and clan. It's really interesting to see these two people
from such very different cultures come together and the
lengths they go to in order to keep the other safe. The
secondary characters in this tale are just as interesting
as the hero and heroine. I really loved Darius and his
secret at the end of the story. If you're in the mood for a
different type of vampire story, complete with heartfelt
sigh at the end, don't miss this story.

Jaeger needs blood. Half Vector, half human, newly coming of age, he is now drawn to human blood for the first time in his already long life.
Rhiannon, a witch, has a problem with her blood - she produces too much iron to safely live. She decides on a partnership with the Vectors, but before she can approach them, she is attacked and left for dead beneath a pier. Jaeger finds her, unconscious and bleeding.
