"Fantastic build up to a final showdown!"

Once again, we're back with Zoey Redbird at the House of Night. When we left off with BETRAYED, Zoey had just saved her imprinted human boyfriend, Heath, from a group of undead dead kids, including her best friend and roommate Stevie Ray. Unfortunately, Zoey found out her mentor and the head of the school, Nepheret is behind all these undead dead kids. Zoey knows she can't tell any of her friends about this since Nepheret can read minds. The only reason Zoey knows is because she did a spell and reversed the memory block Nepheret put on her. Dealing with all this has not been easy for Zoey, so she's not in the best frame of mind.

Now it's her birthday, and Zoey knows her gifts will all suck. People have always tended to get her "birthmas" gifts since she was born on December 24. And her friends follow this tradition. When she receives a box from Heath with something definitely not Christmas themed, they all wonder why until they read the note, letting them know Zoey hates birthmas gifts. Now with her friends upset with her, Zoey leaves to meet her grandma, the one constant in Zoey's life. Even that doesn't go well, when her mother shows up and then the step-loser joins them. Instead of going straight back to school, Zoey drives around and asks her Goddess to see Stevie Ray again. When Zoey follows her nose and finally finds her friend, she realizes Stevie Ray is barely holding onto her humanity. Now Zoey knows she must do something to help Stevie Ray. They do agree to meet again.

Even though Zoey knows she has to break up with Heath and break the imprint bond, it turns out to be a lot harder than she thought and she finds she just can't bring herself to do it. After all, Heath is familiar and has loved her since grade school. Nor is she done with Professor Loren Blake, who makes his interest more than plain to her. Eric, meanwhile, is not happy about these developments.

And the one person no one in her group can stand, Aphrodite, turns out to be the only one Zoey can discuss any of this with because the ex-leader of the Dark Daughters knows about Stevie Ray through her visions. And when the two of them find the drama professor staked to the fence with her head cut off and a note on her body, the trouble is just beginning.

Will Zoey be able to cure Stevie Ray before she totally loses her humanity? Will the gang accept Aphrodite? Will Zoey ever break her bond with Heath? And what of Loren Blake and his pursuit of Zoey? Who killed the professor in such a gruesome way?

CHOSEN, THE HOUSE OF NIGHT SERIES, BOOK 3 is like the cream in an Oreo cookie holding the two ends together. This story is gearing up for the final showdown between Zoey and Nepheret and mother and daughter team, P.C. and Kristen Cast are setting the stage perfectly for this. In this installment, we see how Zoey becomes segregated from her friends. I really love the realistic feeling I get about teenagers from the way Zoey reacts to different things. Her fears, joys, triumphs, disappointments are all brought out in that wonderful Cast way. Again, P.C. Cast is an auto-buy author for me and this series is also on that auto-buy list.

A House of Night Novel

Dark forces are at work at the House of Night and fledgling vampyre Zoey Redbird's adventures at the school take a mysterious turn. Those who appear to be friends are turning out to be enemies. And oddly enough, sworn enemies are also turning into friends. So begins the gripping third installment of this "highly addictive series." (Romantic Times), in which Zoey's mettle will be tested like never before. Her best friend, Stevie Rae, is undead and struggling to maintain a grip on her humanity. Zoey doesn't have a clue how to help her, but she does know that anything she and Stevie Rae discover must be kept secret from everyone else at the House of Night, where trust has become a rare commodity. Speaking of rare: Zoey finds herself in the very unexpected and rare position of having three boyfriends. Mix a little bloodlust into the equation and the situation has the potential to spell social disaster. Just when it seems things couldnt get any tougher, vampyres start turning up dead. Really dead. It looks like the People of Faith, and Zoeys horrid step-father in particular, are tired of living side-by-side with vampyres. But, as Zoey and her friends so often find out, how things appear rarely reflects the truth
