REVIEW

"A Western tale of love and greed!"

After spending five long years in a federal prison for a crime he didn't commit, Sloan Harper is finally in a position to carry out his revenge. The whole time he was brutalized, all Sloan thought of was revenge—what he would do; how he would carry it out—until by the time he finally managed to escape, he had his revenge planned to the letter. So, here he is, waiting for the stagecoach to come through. When it finally does, he takes his enemy's spinster daughter away with him to Mexico.

Peyton Dalton is not exactly happy with her life. From a young age, she knew she would someday inherit her father's ranch. With this is mind, her father molded her entire life, right down to chasing away any potential suitors. Still a virgin, the only thing Peyton wants is to have a man of her own to love and who loves her. So when she is kidnapped by a handsome cowboy, Peyton is not all that upset. Even when she learns that Sloan's plan is to marry her, impregnate her and then send her back to her father, Peyton is not upset. She knows Sloan could brutally rape her, but when he proves to be gentle and makes sure she enjoys the act as much as he does, Peyton has no plan of ever going back to her father.

Will Peyton's father leave the two alone? Will he even want his daughter back after Sloan has had her? Will Peyton and Sloan have a happily ever after?

THE WAYWARD WIND is a story of love and greed. Once again, Charlotte Boyett-Compo brings to life just how terrible one man can treat another, this time out of greed. Once again, the hero receives redemption and love in a wonderful way to leave us with a heartfelt sigh at the end. As with all of Charlotte Boyett-Compo's books, I highly recommend this one.

SUMMARY

Sloan Harper spent five long, dehumanizing years in a federal penitentiary for a crime he did not commit. During that time, all he had to help him make it through the torturous days and the watchful nights was the thoughts of revenge he aimed to take on the man responsible for his predicament. That revenge would come in the form of his enemy's beloved daughter, Peyton. Kidnapping the virginal spinster, taking her far away from her doting father, and ruining her with his bastard child was all Harper could think about.

Peyton Dalton has spent her entire life wishing for her own home and a husband with whom to share it: neither of which her father ever intends she have. When the handsome outlaw waylays the stage upon which she's traveling and takes her hostage, she begins to realize she should have been more careful for what she wished.

Under a blazing Texan sun, unexpected love will find Harper and Peyton but her father, Jacob Dalton, has only hatred awaiting them at the end of the trail and a bullet with Harper's name on it.
