"Wild vampire story set in the wild west!"
In the first of this series, Cynyr Cree thought he had
killed the rogue Silus Gibbs and the Jakotai brave,
Otaktay, the man who abused his wife, Aingeal. When Silus
chose to jump in the water, Cynyr knew it would be the end
of the rogue. However, unbeknown to Cynyr, Silus survived
and turned Jakotai into a rogue as well. With his
punishment for making Aingeal a Reaper to save her life now
over, the two of them are back on their way to Haines City
from the Citadel. Two other Reapers have gone to Haines
City before them because the Shadowlords know these two are
alive and Otaktay is planning revenge on both Cynyr and
Aingeal. Not surprisingly, by this time, Aingeal is
pregnant with their first child and both of them are very
happy about this and looking forward to their son's birth.
And so they enjoy the travel time on the train to their
home in Haines City. Their first night back in Haines City, Cynyr notices a foul
smell and when he's sure Aingeal is asleep, he slips out of
their bedroom and meets with Arawn, the Prime Reaper, and
Bevyn, a younger Reaper. Arawn and Cynyr decide to go
investigate and find out what the smell is and leave Bevyn
behind to guard the town and Aingeal while they are gone.
When they get to the source of the smell, they find
themselves surrounded by Ghorets, a highly toxic snake
fatal to humans. So now they're in a fight for their lives
against the snakes. Meanwhile, Otaktay has escaped from his
fellow rogues and the Ceannus, those who invented the
rogues, and heads for the town. He manages to incapacitate
Bevyn and steals Aingeal away. When Bevyn is able to, he
turns into a raptor and follows Otaktay. When things become
too difficult for Arawn and Cynyr, Arawn calls for Bevyn to
join them and so he breaks off his pursuit of Aingeal and
the Jakotai. Well, Cynyr ends up being bitten by the
Ghoret, and more than once. Once all the Ghoret are
destroyed, the Goddess Morrigunia appears and proceeds to
take Cynyr under her wing in order to heal him. Will Morriguna be able to save Cynyr? What of Aingeal? Will
she be able to escape from Otaktay? What of the child she
is carrying? Will the Reapers be able to defeat the Ceannus
and the rogues? Will Otaktay still his revenge on Cynyr? WESTERN WIND BOOK 2: REAPER'S REVENGE offers us an exciting
look into the history of the Reapers and their enemies, the
Ceannus. We also get to meet Morrigunia up close and
personal, an added bonus. Charlotte Boyett-Compo is one
author who definitely knows how to build worlds. With each
new book I read in this series, I learn more and more about
the Reapers and how they came to be, their lifestyles and
spouses. Plus, I love being introduced to more of the
Reapers. And I have to admit, some of the secondary
characters are fantastic, like the relationship between
Moira and her daughter-in-law. This is an exciting series
that belongs on your Keeper shelf.

There's unfinished business in Haines City… Cynyr Cree and his wife Aingeal have returned to the western town to protect its citizens from two men the Reaper thought he'd killed. With Cree are the other six Reapers of his team, sent there by the Shadowlords to help stamp out an impending threat to all mankind lurking in the mountains of the high desert. Otaktay, the Jakotai brave who once owned Aingeal, has sworn to take her back from Cree and to slay the Reaper before her eyes. Teaming up a rogue Reaper, Otaktay will let nothing stand in his way of retrieving the woman he believes belongs to him. From the blackness of space, the Triune Goddess Morrigunia keeps a close eye on Her beloved Reapers. When She senses death and danger stalking one of Her own, She returns to Terra with vengeance in Her eye and annihilation in Her black heart. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Note: While this can be read as a stand-alone story, we recommend reading WyndRiver Sinner before Reaper's Revenge.
