"I fell for her firebirds"
Corinne Westfall, classical guitar wunderkind. Aidan
Hawthorne, supernova rock guitarist. What could possibly
bring these two together? John Westfall, Corinne's father
and record producer/promoter extraordinaire, who will stop
at nothing to increase his power base. Unfortunately for
Aidan, Westfall has spotted him as a firebird shifter and
has plans to control him as he does Corinne. Fortunately
for Corinne, Aidan is no pushover, and he has no plans for
either of them to be trapped in Westfall's cage. And the
heat that builds between the two musicians, both onstage
and in private, is enough to spark a wildfire. This story resonated with me on multiple levels. As a
musician, I felt Ms. Connolly's knowledge and love for
music; I believed her characters' emotions, reactions, and
involvement with their craft. As a lover of the paranormal,
I fell for her firebirds, especially Aidan. He was tender,
fierce, witty, and totally sexy; I loved his devotion to
his music and his family. Corinne's frustration with her
life (and her bitchy sisters), her disgust with the way her
career was headed, and her passion for music were
beautifully portrayed, and the two of them together
practically leapt off the page. I could clearly visualize
the concert scenes—I just wish I could have heard them, as
well! One of my favorite "keeper" books as a child was "David and
the Phoenix "; now with Lynne Connolly's "Sunfire" I have
a "grown-up" phoenix book to treasure and re-read. If you
love shapeshifters, and want a change from all the
(lovely) "cats and dogs", or if you love music and
musicians, don't miss this book. I know I can hardly wait
for the next installment of this series!
