"Compelling and disturbing foray into animal instincts"
When she started her camping trip into the mountain
wilderness, Mia never dreamed she'd end up at Stark's
mercy, both of them captive to their passions and the will
of the Cougar Spirit. I went into Cougar's Captive not completely sure what it
was going to be, but the premise sounded interesting—sort
of "mountain man looking for a love to share his life".
What I found was something much more, yet somehow less than
that. This is not your typical romance; in fact, I'm not
certain I'd classify it as a romance at all. Maybe erotic
paranormal would come closer. This story ultimately uses sexuality as a means to
deconstruct, then rebuild, two people to achieve a larger
purpose—the protection and conservation of the land and the
creatures that need it to survive. This goal is being
pursued by something Stark calls "the Cougar Spirit", a
mystical force embodied by a large, powerful cat. The
cougar has already bent Stark to his task, and now is
aiding Stark in finding, and uniting Mia with them, to
pursue their cause. There was no building of a relationship in this story; the
reader is thrown into the confrontation between Stark and
his prey just as suddenly as Mia is. The whole tale had a
disturbing edge to it, as both humans seem under the
compulsion of a force beyond their reckoning, and Mia is
stalked, physically bound, and subjected to Stark's
physical advances. While she comes to welcome their
interplay, it does begin as coercion. Well-written, and
interesting, but not for readers looking for romance (or
the faint-hearted), Cougar's Captive is an intriguing tale
for those who enjoy speculative and paranormal fiction with
a hot twist.

Climbing Cougar Mountain was supposed to bring Mia back in touch with herself. She wants only to commune with nature, to relax. But the mountain has become home to a compelling man driven by forces no mortal woman can comprehend. Watching him approach, she senses his potent sensuality, his determination. Then he speaks. He's been waiting for her, watching her, preparing. Mia tries to flee, but Stark won't be denied. Ropes soon imprison her, and helpless, she awaits her fate. Instead of rape or violence, she's subjected to intimate caresses that wash away her resistance and leave her hungry for sex, for intimacy and understanding. Even as her clothing and defenses are stripped away, she learns her captor wants more than her body. This sexual, commanding man wants her soul as well, and he won't release her until she surrenders.
