"A touching story of dealing with loss and grief."
After he lost the love of his life, Liza, and one of his
brothers in the fight with Kaileel Tohre, Conar sank into a
deep depression. Especially since Conar knows Tohre isn't
gone. Conar can still feel Tohre and knows the two of them
must fight again. With the birth of a son, Conar rises out
of it, only to fall back into depression when the babe's
mother dies. Eventually, with the arrival of Meggie, the
woman who loves Conar as a son, his depression begins to
lift. Conar now realizes he must get away from his family
and friends before they smother him to death. So Conar
decides to go visit his bodyguard's homeland, the Outer
Kingdom. As our story begins, Conar is on a ship on the way
to the Outer Kingdom. While on board, Conar begins to feel
better. Conar loves the sea, and always has. Of course,
he's not prepared for the first time he hears a foghorn,
which scares him. Conar is really looking forward to this
time away from Boreas and his family. Well, until the
captain decides to tell Conar the Tzar is planning on a
marriage between Conar and his daughter, the Tzarevna.
There is absolutely no way Conar is about to marry anyone
with the pain of losing Liza still so close to the surface.
In order to avoid this fate worse than death, Conar decides
to be as obnoxious as he possibly can. When Conar and Marie Catherine meet, sparks fly and
everyone around them realize they are made for each other.
Finally, there is one man Marie Catherine won't be able to
scare away with her sharp tongue, nor will she stand down
from Conar, challenging him at every turn. Well everyone
that is, except the two people involved. Finally, the Tzar
and his family get tired of waiting for the two of them to
realize this and one of the Tzar's sons suggests a
challenge for Conar. So they decide to have a tourney for
Marie Catherine's hand. The winner of the tourney will win
Marie Catherine. One of the first men to arrive is Sajin
Ben-Alkazar, a Kensetti prince, along with his sister,
Sybelle. Sajin is the youngest son and therefore, will not
be inheriting the throne. However, he is very rich and has
already declared he will only take one wife, disregarding
his people's tradition for numerous wives. Eventually,
Sajin and Conar become friends. With the men coming for the
Tzarevna, Conar begins to realize he does want her as his
wife and when he becomes ill with what he knows as
Labyrinth Fever, Marie Catherine nurses him and realizes
she wants him too. Will Conar and Marie Catherine end up together? Will his
family and the Wind Force worry about Conar and send
someone after him? Will Conar be safe from his enemies in
the Outer Kingdom? WINDBELIEVER is a story of two very stubborn people who
need to listen to their hearts. Charlotte Boyett-Compo does
a wonderful job of continuing the WIND LEGENDS SAGA in this
seventh book as one story just leads seamlessly to the
next. After losing Liza, Conar is so lost and in such pain,
knowing he will find what he had with her again. When Conar
realizes he is beginning to care for Marie Catherine, he
must deal with the guilt he feels. And Marie Catherine is
no pushover either. She's managed to send away each and
every one of her suitors, thanks to her sharp tongue. These
two are so stubborn, I just wanted to take them both and
shake some sense into them at times. This is a wonderful,
moving story of one man dealing with the grief of losing
his better half and I highly recommend the WIND LEGEND
SAGAS.
