Brenna Shane Kincaid was just a normal she-wolf in the
SnowDancer wolf pack. Normal, that is, until she was
abducted and tortured by one of the Psy with telekinetic
powers. After having her mind raped by a sadistic monster,
Brenna refuses to allow anyone into her head again, even
the Psy healers, Sascha and Faith. Even though the healers
have released her physically, Brenna knows it will take
time to heal mentally from what was done to her. The only
person Brenna trusts with "skin privileges" right now is
Judd Lauren, a Psy. Of course, Judd Lauren is no ordinary Psy. Judd was once an
Arrow, an elite group of assassins under the direct
leadership of Councilor Ming LeBon. When what was left of
his family was threatened, they all went to the SnowDancer
wolf pack and asked for asylum, which was granted. Even
though the rest of his family has adapted to life among the
SnowDancers, other than the normal problems of his teenage
niece, Judd isn't really a part of the pack. However, the
pack does call upon him for his unique skills when
necessary. He was among the rescuers when they rescued
Brenna and he was present during her healing. Judd refuses
to break Silence, because he knows if he does, someone
innocent could end up dead. Even though he's not a Cardinal
Psy, Judd does have some pretty amazing abilities. Not
surprisingly, he was taught to kill using those abilities.
He'll never forget the name of the child he killed with his
abilities when he was a boy himself. So now he keeps
himself firmly in control of his emotions. Unfortunately,
his control is eroding the more time he spends with Brenna.
But that's not all, someone is targeting Brenna and Judd
has vowed to keep her safe. Is there any chance of a relationship between Brenna and
Judd? Can he break Silence without harming anyone? Who is
targeting Brenna? Why is someone after her? And most
importantly, after the death of Brenna's abductor, will the
Psy retaliate? CARESSED BY ICE is one those books that reaffirm our
beliefs that if we care enough, any obstacles can be
overcome. Nalini Singh not only gives us a good read filled
with danger and all kinds of different things going on, but
also a true love story. Even though our hero and heroine
are in top form physically, mentally, they're both a mess.
Brenna from the rape of her mind and body and Judd from the
way he's been trained and the knowledge of what he's
capable of doing with nothing more than a thought. Even
dealing with these issues, there's more than enough action
to keep the story from bogging down. This is a wonderful
story and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
