"a very hot werewolf anthology"
It is a time in which werewolves and vampires have made
their presence known to all of humankind. In HEAT by L.A.
Banks, our first story in this anthology, we enter the
French Quarter, a casino in Las Vegas owned and operated
by the Warwick Clan of werewolves. It's where Butch
Maverick, a bounty hunter, got a tip from his brother, an
East Coast detective, that some bad drugs where going
through involving some werewolves. Of course, Butch has
absolutely no desire to return to the French Quarter; it's
where Laurel Warwick is and he sure doesn't want to see
her again. With Laurel head of security for the casino,
there's no way Butch will be able to avoid her though.
Laurel, on the other hand, can't believe Butch is not only
in her family's casino, but was trying to go around her
again. Not this time and not now, when the casino is
hosting a twenty million dollar poker tournament.
Will the two of them be able to work together to figure
out who is behind the plot? What is the plot exactly? Is
there any hope of a relationship between Laurel and Butch?
In our second story, THE HUNGER WITHIN by J.M. Jeffries,
we meet the Omega of the pack, Solange Warwick. Solange
works as personal assistant to her mother, Esther Warwick,
Alpha female of the Warwick Clan. Esther and her husband
Julius were slaves on a plantation before the Civil War
and when the war ended, the two of them grabbed all the
children they could and ran, Solange among them. Of
course, Solange wasn't like the rest of the slaves, her
father was the plantation owner. The Warwicks were given
the "gift of the wolf" and eventually settled in Las Vegas
and opened the French Quarter. Now that Esther and Julius
are retiring, Solange has decided it's time for her to
move on. Then we have Jarred Maitland, human undercover
FBI agent working at the French Quarter. It's taken him a
long time, but he finally managed to infiltrate Kenny
Brooks' gang. Jarred is now supposed to compromise Solange
to get updated information because Kenny is planning on
robbing the French Quarter and getting the twenty million
dollars. Solange and Jarred feel an instant attraction.
Is there any hope of a relationship between Solange, a
werewolf, and Jarred, human? Will they be able to stop
Kenny from robbing the French Quarter?
Our third story, DOUBLE DOWN by Seressia Glass, introduces
us to another member of the Warwick Clan. This time we
meet natural born daughter of Esther and Julius, Simone
Warwick. Simone is pretty far down in the pack hierarchy,
in fact she's only one step up from being Omega. In charge
of entertainment for the casino, Simone is pretty busy.
She's also used to getting what she wants, so when the
magician's agent comes to her office to personally let her
know Kadim refuses to allow The Mystery Channel to record
one of his shows, Simone decides that's not good enough
and decides to check with the man himself to find out why
he won't sign on the dotted line. For some reason, Simone
finds herself seeing the very private Kadim in a new and
delicious way. Of course, the fact the alpha from a rival
clan wants her to marry him to get her share of the casino
will have an effect on their relationship.
Exactly what is Kadim? Simone knows he's not human, but
can't tell from his scent what type of creature he is. Is
there hope for any type of a relationship between the two?
Why won't he allow his magic act to be recorded?
Our fourth and final story in this anthology, OUT OF THE
DARK by Natalie Dunbar doesn't actually have one of the
Warwicks in it. This time, we have a relative, a cousin.
Garen Roy is next in line to become the Alpha of the Roy
Clan after his father. For now, Garen is working for the
Preternatural Police, supposed to be making sure the weres
and vamps don't get out of control. Not that it's doing
any good with a werewolf pack attacking humans. During
this rogue werewolf pack's latest killing spree, only one
victim survived—Kellie Monroe. When the werewolves struck
Nana's home, at least Kellie was armed and waiting having
silver bullets in two guns and a silver knife. This
particular knife exactly matches a sword identified as
belonging to the warrior Arielle. After being bitten,
Kellie manages to plunge the knife into the chest of her
attacker and he burns from the inside out. When she's
finally rescued, Kellie ends up getting inoculated against
the lycanthrope virus and she almost dies. Turns out she
has something different in her blood. She's human, but
not. Determined not to become a lab rat in the hospital,
Kellie leaves. Not surprisingly, a were almost attacks her
as soon as she gets into a taxi. This time, she's rescued
by Garen Roy, a man she's attracted to and who happens to
be a werewolf.
What is Kellie? Is she somehow related to this Arielle?
What is this rogue werewolf pack after? Can Garen keep
VEGAS BITES is a very hot anthology of life and love among
a werewolf pack. These four authors have come up with four
very different stories of life in a werewolf pack in Las
Vegas. I really enjoyed all the different types of beings
in these stories as well, from werewolves to vampires and
djinn and even the Fey. There's a bit of something for
everyone in these stories and I highly recommend VEGAS
