"a very entertaining Victorian romance"
Charlotte Kent knows about poverty and life on the
streets. This is why she starts a refuge house for those
wishing to change their lot in life. While she is
attending a gala, she interrupts a robbery attempt by the
mysterious "Shadow." Bullets fly and "The Shadow" is
hit. Charlotte takes it upon herself to help the wounded
thief make his escape. Earl Harrison Payne alias The Shadow never thought his
rescuer could cause so much trouble. First, Charlotte
saves him. Then, she tries to blackmail him to steal for
her. He has a difficult time believing her threats of
extortion and is determined to find out why she needs so
much money. Circumstances bring the two closer together where they
find solace in each other's arms. However, Charlotte, who
has grown up to be a strong and determined woman must not
let her abusive biological father worm his way into her
life again, making her feel worthless. Harrison must
figure out who wants to reveal his past and destroy him
before it is too late. Together, they may have a chance
to rescue each other and protect those that they hold dear. Ms. Monk has penned a very entertaining Victorian romance
with characters that will simply steal your heart.
