"Simply Awesome!"
Atlantis, a centuries old civilization, a society of
timeless myth. Seven Warriors of Poseidon, sentinels to
protect humankind for all time; they exist in the depths,
defending civilization from evil undetected, until
now... Until recently vampires and shapeshifters existed among
the human population unknown but for the few unfortunate
that came in contact with them. Now they walk unchecked in
society and are silently gaining power, right under the
noses of unsuspecting humans. It is the mission of the
Warriors to protect humankind from these species that view
humans as there food supply. There job has become
increasing difficult since vampires and shapeshifters are
now living openly and even holding political office. High Prince and Warrior, Conlan, has recently been freed
after being held and mercilessly tortured and used for
seven years by Goddess of the Night, Anubisia. Conlan is
teetering on the brink of being broken psychologically but
has somehow held on by a thread to his sanity, a very
frayed thread. When he returns to Atlantis, he undergoes
extensive healing at the hands of Alaric, High Priest to
Poseidon and Conlan's childhood friend. Unfortunately
Conlan has little time to recover from his trauma when he
is informed that Poseidon's Trident, the vehicle of his
ascension to the throne of Atlantis, has been stolen by
Reisen, in an act of high treason. Now Conlan and his
Warriors must go landside in search of the trident, the
future of Atlantis is at stake. Conlan fool heartedly
leaves Atlantis without his Warriors, and when he surfaces
he immediately senses a telepathic connection with someone
on the beach who is experiencing great anguish. He not
only senses her thoughts but emotions as well. Could he
have found an empath, "Aknasha"; a gift that until now
only Atlantaens could share? And what can explain his
raging, almost insane need to be with her, touch her,
which is beyond all reason? Riley Dawson is a social worker that is no stranger to the
worst that society has to offer but today has tested her
beyond her limits. Retreating to the seashore, her
inexplicable solace when she needs emotional healing, she
is out after dark, a dangerous time for humans these days.
While being attacked by three men that at the very least
mean to rape her, she senses a dark and dangerous presence
in her mind. Although she is aware of her empathic
abilities, she has until now only shared this connection
with her sister Quinn. She is frightened but somehow drawn
to this stranger on a level she cannot explain. She "sees'
the horrors he has endured and senses his goodness. The
attack is averted but the danger remains as Riley shares a
blazing connection with Conlan that he is not willing to
let go. Now Riley is thrust into the battle to save the
ancient civilization of Atlantis, and deal with her need
to heal the emotionally scared Warrior Prince. Ms. Day has penned a fast paced, emotional read where the
secondary cast of characters is as intriguing as the hero
and heroine. Along with an incredible cast, the complex
plot is steeped in political intrigue and the fascinating
mythology of Atlantis. The world building is superb. Riley
is a strong and feisty heroine with a depth of compassion
that readers will connect with on the most basic level.
Conlan is a hero with a strong sense of duty that is at
odds with his feelings and attraction to Riley. We are
introduced to the other Warriors here and get a glimpse as
to what is in store for them; one of them being Ven, the
King's Vengeance and Conlan's brother. The Warriors of
Poseidon are a sexy, chivalrous and dangerous team that
create an atmosphere of testosterone so thick you can cut
it with a knife; the interaction between this brawny bunch
is priceless. ATLANTIS RISING, the first offering in the
Warriors of Poseidon series will capture your heart and
imagination, and leave you panting for more. Luckily
readers will have a tidbit to tide them over with the
novella "Wild Hearts in Atlantis" in the WILD THING
anthology in May 2007, while waiting for Ven's story in
ATLANTIS AWAKENING coming October 2007. Simply awesome!
