"the first installment of the VAMPIRE BABYLON series"
Stuntwoman Dawn Madison is now back in Hollywood, not
exactly where she wants to be anymore. But when she got
the call her dad was missing, she knew she had no other
choice. Even though their relationship wasn't the best,
Dawn still loves her father and knows she must do what she
can to help find him. After all, her dad raised her after
her mother's death when Dawn was still very young. Even
though he wasn't the world's best father, Dawn will not
abandon him now. Of course, it wouldn't surprise Dawn to
find out her dad just went down to Mexico for a week. It
wouldn't be the first time he's done such a thing. When
she finally reaches her destination, Limpet and
Associates, Dawn is a bit creeped out by the place. Turns
out Frank, her dad, has become a PI for the firm of Limpet
and Associates, psychic investigators, and his coworkers
are a midget named Kiko and a beautiful Latina techno
geek. The Boss turns out to be a voice over a TV. And the
worst part is the case Frank was working on involved a
dead child star showing up in a recently made movie twelve
years after his death. Now Dawn is ready to leave, but
it's not like she has a job to return to after her
reaction to being pawed by a major star. So she decides to
stay until they can find Frank. On their way to talk to the parents of the "dead" child
star, the trio end up being attacked by vampires. After
finally defeating them, albeit a bit the worse for wear,
they finally talk to the parents. The mother seems very
concerned, but Dawn is getting bad vibes from the father.
The more they investigate, the more they realize there is
something going on with the vampires in the area. Of
course, Dawn never does get to see the Voice in person,
but she experiences some strange sex with him. She also
learns she has some strange abilities herself. And throw
in a gorgeous PI also working on Frank's disappearance who
keeps turning down Dawn's advances, and there's more than
one mystery for Dawn to solve. Will they ever find Frank? What exactly is the Voice? And
exactly how many different types of vampires are there?
What is up with this dead star? Is he dead, or undead? NIGHT RISING is a fantastic introduction to the VAMPIRE
BABYLON series. Chris Marie Green does a wonderful job of
bringing this gritty, dark novel to life. Dawn is not your
normal heroine; she's tough, strong and grew up way too
young. Not to mention, growing up in her movie star
mother's shadow and fighting inferiority issues her whole
life. While she may have a good body, she knows her face
is nowhere near as beautiful as her mother's. So Dawn has
created a brick wall around herself and allows no one
inside. Not only is there a mystery to be solved, we also
get to watch as Dawn slowly begins to allow people inside
her walls. If this is the first installment of the VAMPIRE
BABYLON series, I can't wait to see where Chris Marie
Green takes the rest of the books. I still want to know
exactly what the Voice is though. All in all, this is one
story I really enjoyed reading and highly recommend.

Welcome to Hollywood—after dark… Stuntwoman Dawn Madison is a girl with a lot of attitude—and a lot of issues, mostly about living up to the legacy of her mother, a world famous movie star/sex symbol, whose death left Dawn to be raised by her dad Frank, nobody’s notion of single-father-of-the-year. Now that she’s all grown up, she and Frank aren’t on the best of terms, to say the least. Still, he is her dad, and when he vanishes while investigating the bizarre sighting—caught on film—of a supposedly long-dead child star, she comes home to Tinseltown to join the search for him. Working with his colleagues—a psychic short in stature but big in dreams of stardom, a beautiful Latina techno-geek, and the P. I. firm’s never-seen boss—she discovers an erotic and bloody underground society made up of creatures she thought existed only on the screen. They are devious. They are deadly. And some of them are dangerously attractive…
