"Wonderfully touching futuristic story!"
Our story takes place on Earth, in San Francisco to be
precise, in the year 2038. Gray has just arrived on Earth,
the planet of his birth. This is the first time he's been
here in more years than he cares to recount. Shortly after
the Invasion, he was taken, along with his uncle, to
Prendar, where the two of them became slaves. Eventually,
Gray's uncle married the Premier of Prendar and his life
changed. Coming back to Earth to make sure the new
Constitution he is proposing gets passed, Gray also needs
to prove something to himself. As soon as they land, the
crew takes off to partake of different pleasures the planet
offers but Gray remains behind. When he finally decides to
go out somewhere, he wishes to be alone on his first walk
on the planet of his birth. Well, as soon as he leaves the
ship, he sees an attack in progress. Some men are attacking
a woman! Immediately, Gray intercedes and stops the attack.
He takes the woman, Daria, back to his ship with him and to
his quarters. Daria can't believe her luck. As a member of the
Resistance, it was Daria's job to get close to Gray and
stop the passing of the constitution. As she was on her way
to this assignment, the man who was a father to her was
captured, along with the other members of their group.
Knowing she can't go back home because the place will be
watched, Daria is now homeless with only ten credits to her
name. When Gray stops the attack and takes her to his
quarters, Daria feels she has it made, especially when Gray
offers to let her stay with him as long as she wants. Of course, the fact Gray brings her a pleasure she never
thought she would feel makes her assignment easier, or does
it? Will the Constitution pass? Will Gray ever discover
Daria is a member of the resistance? Will Daria ever be
able to overcome her prejudice with anything Prendarian? FOR THE HEART OF DARIA is a touching futuristic story!
Doreen DeSalvo has done a wonderful job bringing the
conflict within Daria to life in these pages. While Doreen
DeSalvo's vision of our future may not be pleasant, it is
definitely something we should all be aware of. As the
inhabitants of Earth have almost destroyed the ecology of
the planet, added to our tendency to fight, it is easy to
believe the Earth will become easy pickings for another
planet. And in this story, we have opposing forces with the
Resistance and a collaborator. What happens when these two
meet and collide? Instant sparks. This is one story you
don't want to miss!
