"Fantastic dark fantasy story!"
When we left off with the THE SMOKE THIEF, Rue had
accompanied Kit back to Chasen and agreed to marry him.
When we pick up the story with THE DREAM THIEF, Kit and Rue
now have children. The orphan Rue took in and taught how to
steal, Zane, is one of the few humans who know the secrets
of the Drakon and does odd jobs for Kit and Rue. He even
lives in Rue's old house in London. The mission he is
undertake now is to find the famed diamond of Drakon
legend, Draumr, and bring it back to the Drakon. This
diamond can only be handled by a human since it affects any
of the Drakon and can drive them mad with its song. Of
course, none of the Drakon know exactly where the diamond
is, or who may have it. They only know they can all hear
the diamond singing to them. Rue can tell Draumr is in
Eastern Europe, but that's all the help she can give Zane.
For the amount of money Kit is willing to pay him, Zane
sets off on a hopeless mission. As a child, Lia has never really fit in with her sisters
and brothers. Of course, with her father being leader of
the Drakon and her mother one of the rare females who can
Turn, Lia does have a lot to live up to. As far as she can
tell, Lia only has one gift—she dreams of the future. All
of her dreams have Zane in them so she knows he will be a
part of her future. Of course, that's impossible given the
fact Drakon are not allowed to mate with anyone not of
their own kind. Lia also knows she will somehow be the one
to find Draumr. When she shows no sign of being able to
Turn, her parents allow her to go to a finishing school.
Just before she is to graduate from the finishing school,
Lia forges notes covering her absence from both the school
and her parents and runs away to meet with Zane, breaking
all the rules of her kind. When Zane receives an invitation to a ball given by the
local gentry addressed to his real name, he has no choice
but to appear. Once there, he sees a beautiful woman he
knows to be Drakon by her ethereal beauty. She looks
vaguely familiar. When a woman commandeers him to the
beauty, he finds out she is none other than Lia. She
manages to convince him that he will need her to find
Draumr and makes sure everyone knows the two of them are
married. So off they go to the east to find the diamond of
legend. Will they be able to find Draumr? Will anything come of the
attraction between Lia and Zane? Will they have a future
together? Will it be as Lia has dreamed? Zane controlling
her and the Drakon with Draumr? Will her family accept Zane
as her husband? What will the two of them find at the end
of their journey? Are there other Drakon? THE DREAM THIEF is a very different type of fairy tale.
Shana Abe once again weaves her magic and transports us
back to the Regency era in this thrilling story. This story
held me spellbound as we once again get the opportunity to
learn about life among the Drakon. Shana Abe has a definite
talent in writing to fit the time period and this story is
no exception to that. With Zane's character growing up a
thief to keep himself alive and doing whatever it takes to
survive, added to Lia's growing up as the pampered daughter
of an English nobleman, the two of them are definitely
diverse. Shana Abe did a brilliant job of keeping me in
suspense to see which way he would go in the end; if he
would pick good or evil. This is one heck of a thrilling
ride and one you don't want to miss. I can't wait for the
next one in this series.

He could be her master - or her slave...
In the remote hills of northern England lives a powerful clan with a centuries-old secret. They are the drákon, shape-shifters who possess the ability to Turn-changing from human to smoke to dragon. And from the very stones of the earth, they hear hypnotic songs of beauty and wonder. But there is one stone they fear.... Buried deep within the bowels of the Carpathian Mountains lies the legendary dreaming diamond known as Draumr, the only gem with the power to enslave the drákon. Since childhood, Lady Amalia Langford, daughter of the clan's Alpha, has heard its haunting ballad but kept it secret, along with another rare Gift.... Lia can hear the future, much in the way she hears the call of Draumr. And in that future, she realizes that the diamond-along with the fate of the drákon-rests in the hands of a human man, one who straddles two worlds. Ruthlessly clever, Zane has risen through London's criminal underworld to become its ruler. Once a street urchin saved by Lia's mother, Zane is also privy to the secrets of the clan-and is the only human they trust to bring them Draumr. But he does nothing selflessly. Zane's hunt for the gem takes him to Hungary, where he is shocked to encounter a bold, beautiful young noblewoman: Lia. She has broken every rule of the drákon to join him, driven by the urgent song of Draumr-and her visions of Zane. In one future, he is her ally. In another, her overlord. In both, he is her lover. Now, to protect her tribe, Lia must tie her fate to Zane's, to the one man capable of stealing her future-and destroying her heart....
