"Wonderful modernization of Eros and Psyche tale!"
Erostatle "Eros" Windgate, son of Aphrodite, grandson of
Zeus, has everything he always wanted. He's handsome, rich
and has the best job in the world working at Aphrodite's
Pleasures. Of course, the fringe benefits of working at
Aphrodite's Pleasures is trying out all the products. And
Eros has more than enough names in his little black book to
satisfy his every whim. Just as he thinks things couldn't
get much better, he get a call from his mother. She's all
in a panic and demanding Eros do something. When he can
finally manage to figure out what's going on, Eros
discovers the reason for his mother's little fit is due to
one Dr. Psychedelic "Psyche" Rainbo. It turns out Dr.
Rainbo is an advocate of serious, committed relationships,
not the sexual gratification espoused by Aphrodite's
Pleasures. Even though he can't understand his mother's
panic, Eros reluctantly agrees to help her. Psyche's parents have a solid, loving relationship. Her two
younger sisters are also both married and deeply in love
with their spouses. Not for the first time, Psyche wonders
if she will ever experience real love, not to mention, ever
having a sexual relationship. With her books and lectures
doing so well, Psyche has been scheduled for a number of
book signings. Deciding to check out the competition before
a signing, Psyche researches Aphrodite's Pleasures. In the
middle of doing so, she runs across an article featuring
Eros Windgate and is immediately struck by his image. Why
can't she ever find someone like this? After giving her
talk and before the signing, Psyche runs into the bathroom
of the bookstore. Just as she finishes drying her hands,
the lights go out and she can feel a man's hand covering
her mouth. Deciding to throw caution to the winds, Psyche
decides to have a sexual experience with the stranger. Of
course, she has conditions. One of which is he can only
come to her in the dark; she doesn't want to know who he is
or see his face. When the stranger agrees, they set up a
rendezvous. When Eros accosts Psyche in the women's restroom, he can't
believe how attracted he is to her. Of course, his doing so
is all just part of the plot his mother cooked up to ruin
the doctor's reputation. He also can't believe he agreed to
her conditions. Will the fated rendezvous take place? Will Eros be able to
go through with ruining Psyche? What of Aphrodite? Will
Psyche be able to stick to her condition of not seeing the
man she's agreed to have sex with? RISKY BUSINESS SONS OF ZEUS is a very interesting twist to
the story of Eros and Psyche. In this modern day telling of
the Ancient Greek tale, Amanda McIntyre has given us a
whole different outlook to the story. Instead of a warm
goddess of love, Aphrodite is a vengeful, mean-spirited
woman, still beautiful naturally; willing to do whatever it
takes to keep her company on top, regardless of who she may
hurt in the process. Eros is a happy-go-lucky, handsome,
charming man, taking his pleasure where and with whom he
will. Psyche is not as confident as Eros is and even goes
to the extreme of wearing hats which will hide her face
whenever she has to speak in front of people so they can't
see the fear in her eyes. When the two of them come
together, sparks ignite. But sparks aren't the only thing
occurring. This is a fascinating story and I highly
recommend it.
