"Armageddon has arrived.."
It is the last year of the tribulation and our heroes are
more determined than ever to outlast Carpathia's repressive
rule. Chang, still undercover in New Babylon is hoping to
finally escape to Petra with the other Judah- ites. Danger
grows ever worse for the Tribulation Force's opposition to
the Global Community. Those in San Diego are at greater
risk than ever when GC starts sweeping the city for rebel
hold outs. Chloe is captured and sentenced to death by
guillotine, but still hoping her family will rescue her
once more. All the while, Nicolae is planning a last
offensive move to destroy all opposition once and for all. Armageddon starts strong, preparing readers for a powerful
adventure. Unfortunately it can't keep up the momentum of
the series and falls flat towards the end. Nicolae does not
have as large of an active role in this book. When he does
make an appearance, the once fearsome monster has become
not much more than a coward who hides behind his minions
with lots of bluster. It was disappointing to see this once
compelling villain turned into a faint shadow of what he
once was. Chloe's willful stubbornness finally gets her
into trouble she can't escape. What is especially
disappointing is the fact that some of the once favored
characters have only a minimal role in this installment.
Then there are those whose behavior in this book is so out
of character that readers will sit up and say "huh?" The
biggest example of this is seeing the gentle leader Tsion
Ben Judah suddenly decide to play hero. This reviewer can't
say more than that without ruining the story, but this turn
of events just did not seem to fit with his personality. Though there are many exciting moments, this book drags a
bit in the middle as it gears up for the explosive
conclusion. However, die hard fans will find they just
can't put it down, determined to see the series through to
the end and hoped for intensely emotional finale in
