"interesting characters but lacks 'Regency' feel"
Jared Broadrick, the Marquess of Middleton and heir to a
dukedom, is one of the tons most eligible bachelors.
Jared's controlling father is trying to force him to marry
a woman whom he can barely stand. The only things that
matter to the duke are pedigree and ability to produce a
heir. Therefore, Jared decides to find his own bride, who
will have those qualities. Meanwhile, Ava Fairchild finds herself in a predicament.
After her mother dies, Ava, her sister, and her cousin are
forced to live off the goodwill of her stepfather, who
inherited Ava's mother's vast fortune. When her stepfather
returns from France, he has made it clear, that he will
choose husbands for the women. Ava decides that she will
choose a husband for herself and sets her cap for Jared.
Jared likes Ava well enough and decides, that she will do
for a bride. Thus begins a marriage of convenience. THE HAZARDS OF HUNTING A DUKE is a regency historical
romance with interesting characters but a lack of true
regency feel. My first impression of Jared was that he was
a spoiled, rich boy. However, on closer examination, I saw
a tortured, lonely man afraid to love. At times, Ava seemed
to act in a modern way. In a time when husbands controlled
women's lives, this seemed ill-advised. Another problem was
that the inheritance of a Marquisate from Jared's mother
was never fully explained. The characters of Ava's sister
and cousin piqued my interest and I look forward to reading
their books. Posted June 4, 2006 Courtesy

Beware! You might fall in love....
USA Today bestselling author Julia London, "a gifted and versatile author" (Publishers Weekly), introduces a sexy, wildly romantic and emotionally charged new trilogy in which three aristocratic young ladies, upon discovering they are destitute, resort to desperate means to keep up appearances...and find the husbands of their dreams. When the young ladies of the Fairchild family learn that their stepfather has absconded with their late mother's fortune, Ava, the eldest, hunts down the notoriously wealthy rakehell Jared Broderick, the Marquis of Middleton and heir to a dukedom. Much to her shock and delight, the marquis sweeps her into a whirlwind romance and proposes marriage. But after their passionate wedding night, Ava discovers Jared has ulterior motives of his own. Not only does he expect her to deliver an heir while he continues to enjoy a rogue's life, but Ava also suspects she is a pawn in her husband's quest for revenge. Marriages of convenience work for some, but for Ava a loveless bond won't do. So she devises a bold plan to confront her husband's demons so that he might be free to choose to give her his heart for the right reason: because she is the only woman he will ever truly desire.
