"Fairy King and the Fairy Fool got mad and bring woman from 1990 to 1513 to teach Lord Hawk a lesson"
I just read BEYOND THE HIGHLAND MIST by Karen Marie
Moning. I can't believe I left this book sitting in my TBR
mountain for so long! I really enjoyed this book. I had
read an article in Romantic Times where the author said
that there was going to be a sequel with Grimm (hero's best
friend) in December. So even though I already had the book
and wanted to read it, this made me want to read it now. I
sat down to read it and I ended up staying up all night
long to finish it. I'm still not exactly sure what Grimm
is, just that he isn't quite human. I'm definitely looking
forward to his book To Tame A Highland Warrior. This book is about the legendary Hawk who is a Scottish
Lord and who is supposed to be the perfect man. A Fairy
Queen make comments about how wonderful he was and
basically how stallions were envious of him. So the Fairy
King and the Fairy Fool got mad and decided they needed to
find a way to punish Hawk. Because no woman could say no to him, they decided to look
through the centuries to find a woman that Hawk would
desire but who wouldn't want him because he was so
handsome. So they found Adrienne in 1990 something Seattle
and transported her back in time to 1513 Scotland. It was
really funny in many of places! Adrienne was supposed to
take the place of Mad Janet the woman King James had
betrothed to the Hawk years earlier. Hawk didn't want to
marry Mad Janet but he had no choice; so he married
Adrienne believing she was Mad Janet who was dead. He now
had a beautiful woman that said no to him, and who he saw
looking at another man, the smithy on his property, with
desire in her eyes. For Hawk that was just too much. I thought there were some really funny scenes in the book.
The Fairy King and the Fairy Fool on two different
occasions were arguing back and forth that the heroine
should go back to the future or stay in the past. The
heroine was in the garden in Scotland in 1513 and the Fairy
King would sweep her back to the future; and the Fool would
say no she belonged in the past and he would sweep her back
to the past. They kept putting her back and forth, back
and forth. In another scene when Hawk was in the process
of seducing her, they took her back to the future and then
brought her back to the past. When she popped back into
bed beside him, Hawk came to believe that she was really
from the future. I absolutely adored the end of the book
when Hawk had been told how to command a Fairy and had all
of his commands wrote out on a scroll and stood reading it
to the Fairy for over 20 minutes with the Fairy pacing back
and forth getting madder and madder because as long as Hawk
wasn't interrupted the Fairy had to do what Hawk was saying
so of course the Fairy tried to distract him and it was so
funny! There was also a little side story with Hawk's mother Lydia
and Travis the Tanner that I thought was so sweet. Sheila Bragg / August, 1999
