"Wonderful Children\'s Fantasy!"
Our hero in this adventure is one Edward Forrest. Edward
lives with his mother and two sisters. He really loves the
library and spends a lot of time there. He also spends time
with his neighbor, Mr. Wilde. One morning, Edward gets up
to get breakfast ready and notices his mother and sisters
are acting strangely. He realizes why the next morning he
is alone in the house. His mother and sisters left him
there alone! Edward gets breakfast, goes to school and
reads about a treasure and finds a map leading him to his
neighbor's yard and digs up a coin. When the food in the
house runs out, Edward decides to take a journey and ends
up in a village along with a couple other children. His
neighbor is there and they spend the night with him. The
next morning, Mr. Wilde tells the children they are going
to Brynnfeld, the Academy of the Oracle. All the children that have come to the village are put in a
horse-drawn wagon and taken to Brynnfeld. They all begin
taking classes to learn magic. Edward and his roommate
become fast friends. Edward is eventually approached by one
of the other boys to join a secret group he has created and
Edward feels the boy is up to no good. Will Edward join this group? He really wants to find out
what this boy is up to and what he's planning with the
group. Edward has heard of the Dark Lord and is afraid the
group is somehow involved with him. THE SECRET OF THE LABYRINTH is a wonderful children's
fantasy. This is the type of book I wish they had around
when I was a child. C.J. Lewis has done a fantastic job of
making her characters very believable, right down to Sammi,
the little girl in the wheelchair. The settings are all
realistic and I really loved the fact the children had to
work as well as learn at the Brynnfeld Academy of the
Oracle. I highly recommend this children's fantasy series. Reviewed by Chere Gruver
