"Less fantasy, more humanity"
Echo Quinn met Sean Casey and fell for him ten years
before. His family held the reins of a huge conglomerate
and his girlfriend was the prettiest and most ambitious
girl in school. But Echo, the poor white girl, somehow
managed to catch his attention. She became a single mother
when Sean went to college, leaving her alone and pregnant.
Years later, though, she realizes that her son needs to
know his father -- and that she's going to have to tell
Sean that he has a son! FLAMES PAST throws together an alcoholic heroine and a hero
who is running from his past and gets pure combustion. Sean
is a genuinely nice guy, and Echo, though she obviously has
her weaknesses, is a spunky, loving heroine. This story
is "spiced" up by the fact that the main characters have
some ESP -- Echo being empathic/telepathic and Sean and
their son Athan are pyrokinetic. These talents are mostly
used as flavoring for the character's pasts more than
anything else. From the first introduction of Athan we are
hoping that he gets to have a real family and Sean and
Echo's still-lingering passion for each other is very
enjoyable. FLAMES PAST presents a host of interesting and
fun characters for the reader, mixes in a little real-life
turbulence and comes up with a nice story. This book is
recommended for anyone who's looking for a romance with a
little less fantasy and a little more humanity. Reviewer's Note: This book is for those who want to read
about real characters conquering real fears and real
hardships and handicaps. I did not personally consider this
book very paranormal at all because the instances of
paranormal activity really did not have any bearing on the
storyline. They could have been taken out, the book cleaned
up a bit, and we would have had the same result. This is
really a book about human beings, not humans with
unexplainable powers. ParaNormal Romance Reviews © Copyright 2002
